Counting Change

in Portly Stories

Most of you probably know that US Air charges $7 for meals. When they first started doing this last year, fatty behind me tried paying his $7 IN CHANGE! Fatty had almost enough quarters in his pocket to cover it. I couldn’t believe he was making the stewardess count all that change. They have such a hard job as it is! Come on, can’t people go a few hours without eating??

Frankly, I think paying for one of their $2 soft drinks (a policy they've since revoked) in change would have been hilarious, especially if an entire planeload of passengers all got the same idea. It might even have gotten Doug Parker to realise charging $2 for a can of soda was ridiculous a little sooner.

I agree that paying for the meal entirely in change was a little out of line.

I agree that paying in change is not good form, but neither is the tone of your "story" I wonder what names we could come up for you? I've no objection to stories about the griefs caused by overweight individuals. I can't approve of name calling for anyone though – grow up.

I agree with SAW; it sounds like the original poster suffers from HIPS (Hostile Infantile Personality Syndrome).

I too agree with SAW. Name calling is really infantile. So what if he paid using change. I would've done the same thing. Its airline food, what do you expect?

Would this still have been a flight from hell if the person paying in change had been thin?

I don't see how this really affected you or detracted from your flying experience. You just sound like a juvenile name-calling douchebag. Congratulations.

Nice comment MJ. so-called 'fatty' wasn't in any way an inconvenience, and just might have been making a point of his own by paying in change.

Our subtle, individual rebellions often go unnoticed until many of us do the same thing.

Watching a cabin steward count $7 in change X 1-200 people would be kind of funny to watch, and completely throw them off a strict feeding schedule….and I do say feeding because that is how most airlines treat it.

Being too hungry on a plane = nausea, wouldn't want fatty BARFING now would you?

Re: paying in change, yeah it's kind of obnoxious, but change is money too. Fucking deal.

While I partly agree with saw, in that name-calling just because a guy is fat is childish, I also feel that it was a bit petulant of MJ to be so harsh in (I assume) 'her' assessment of you, that is; being a juvenile, name-calling douche'.

I'm sure we all feel that hers was justified and MUCH more mature.

I am sure watching the passenger pay in change was grueling in light of the circumstances, but I've had my share of times when I've had to pay for drive-thru meals with the change I scrounged from my purse and under the car seats, etc. Suck it up.
