Ungentlemanly Colonel Sanders Look-Alike

October 20, 2007

in Passenger Stories

I was once on a flight from the Caribbean. After a long delay we were permitted to get onto the plane. It was totally crowded and it took quite a while to get everyone into their seats and prepare to leave. It was very hot outside and inside the plane was no better. The smells of unbathed sweaty people was overpowering and there was lots of kids and babies crying and such.

After sitting for what seemed like an hour for some unknown delay, we were just ready to pull away from the gate when this older ‘Colonel Sanders’ looking fellow (yes, complete with the white suit, hat and long white goatee) stands up and loudly announces, “I am not going to sit another moment here amongst these darkies.” You could hear a pin drop and everyone gasped at this fellow’s extremely rude comment. The attendant quickly came back and removed him from his seat…for his own protection I think. I think he ended up in 1st class!

hm…so the moral of this story is being racist gets you good seating? I would try it, but I would have to be racist against myself

Holy crap! Maybe it was some weird kind of performance art.

First of all I do not condone racism. I think it is a great evil. But it wouldve been very hard for me not to laugh at something that unexpected

On the bright side, I've also heard an anecdote where a racist lady tried the same thing regarding a black man sitting next to her, so the flight attendant moved the black man to first class instead.

Good for them! [the flight attendant, i mean!]

I am an African American woman and I find his actions totally ridiculous. However, just picturing Colonel Sanders making a statement like that is hilarious. I can't stop laughing. I keep picturing colonel sanders with a bucket of chicken standing up in the middle of the aisle making that statement.

Whoa – maybe that WAS Colonel Sanders, who after all was as racist as they come.

I thought the story was finger licking good. Just add 11 secret herbs and spices and you have a franchise!

doug April 2, 2009 at 10:55 pm

I do not blame the man in the white suit at all.

Black folks are not human in my eyes.

More like rodents.

and racists, skinheads and national front arseholes are to me akin to cockroaches or bedbugs.

A Black Man Who Woul April 3, 2009 at 8:50 am

What a message: "Be rewarded for being a racist jackass." And if he hated "darkies" so much, then what the hell was he doing traveling to the Caribbean?!?

What a dipshit.

last boyscout April 3, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Maybe he was refering to all the tourists who had good tans. I didn't know you owned a white suit Doug?

TravMD April 5, 2009 at 6:24 am

I don't buy it. Too close to the internet hoax someone else mentioned about the black man and rich racist white women on the flight from South Africa (see snopes.com).

Soop April 5, 2009 at 6:31 am

I honestly don't know what I would have done.

chef james scott April 6, 2009 at 12:49 pm

Joe Mama April 10, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Col. Sanders couldn't be racist… after all he made fried chicken

K. Watson May 5, 2009 at 11:44 am

LOL! Okay, this story is so ignorant that I just have to laugh. And his reward for his racism – UPGRADE! LOL!

Atarii October 25, 2013 at 1:19 pm

How is this story "ignorant"? Ignorant means to not know something. (Ignorant of Raising Cane's sauce recipe, or ignorant of, for instance, my real name, which you are.)
You mean the GUY was ignorant? Well, he could be– or he could just be racist by choice.

Atari May 31, 2009 at 10:21 pm

Racism, as it is now, is so stupid.

I generally dislike black folk, but it's because of their willing ignorance and idiotic ebonics.

Also, very few that I have been around DON'T make me feel threatened.

But if there's a reasonable black guy who is smart, then I'm all for him.

I loved the black guy from the new Batman movies, Denzel Washington, and this enormously tall guy where I used to work. He was a funny guy.

So it's more like, I hate ignorance and pugnacious morons, and there just HAPPEN to be a cornucopia of black people who match that description down here in Louisiana.

That said, I'll never understand how someone can hate another human being just because his skin is darker. That's unfounded and asinine.
