breastfeeding

A customer wanted to avoid the pet fee, so they tranquilized their cat, wrapped it in bubble wrap and put it in a suitcase/carry-on. The flight was delayed and the cat woke up screeching and clawing. Busted.

A female customer brought aboard the flight a Chihuahua dog. During the flight the crew attendant noticed that the customer had taken the dog out to nurse it. I’m not kidding.

A customer’s flight was cancelled due to weather. The next flight out was not until the next day. The customer demanded to be compensated for a hooker because he was being deprived of his wife for the night.

I had just boarded a flight out of Anchorage with my then 2 week old baby. He had been peacefully sleeping until we were in line for take-off. He then woke up and was hungry, not crying really but that newborn mewling they do before the actual cry starts. In the amount of time it took me to shift around and move my shirt to feed him, the guy sitting in front of me turned around and snapped ” Is that brat going to scream the whole trip?”

As a brand new mom I was already a little overwhelmed and didn’t know quite what to say. Thankfully the angel sitting next to me piped up ” So what if he does; he’s obviously got more manners than you.” Incidentally my baby didn’t cry once the whole trip; he happily nursed and went right back to sleep.

I was on a connected flight from DFW to Austin to San Jacinto with my fiance and our then 8 month old daughter. I wanted to take the late flight in hopes that the baby would go to sleep easily and not make a lot of noise (the sleeping didn’t happen, luckily she’s an extremely well behaved baby). I sat closest to the window and my fiance sat by the aisle so we could have some privacy while I breastfed. There was a man not doing a very good job of pretending to be asleep in the seat across the aisle who kept staring at me while I was trying to feed the baby! I kept covering us up more with a blanket and he kept leaning further to try and catch a glimpse. Seriously, gross!

On an 11 or 12 hour flight from Auckland, NZ to Los Angeles, a family that I would consider to be “crunchy granola” boarded and had the entire middle row of seats against the bulkhead. We were sitting a couple of rows behind them and at cruise altitude when their youngest (approximately 5yr old son) says “Mommy, I am hungry.” I’m thinking this is not unusual, I am sort of hungry too! He repeats this a number of times and starts pawing at her shirt. I was thinking, no way is this going to happen, when the mom undoes her shirt revealing her “front side” and starts breastfeeding this kid. My wife and I were speechless. The kid was too old in my opinion and the mom was – well I don’t know what she was thinking. When does this, I don’t care about what anyone else thinks, attitude stop?

An After Meal Snack

Several years ago I was flying from Denver to San Francisco to spend Thanksgiving at my Grandmother’s house. I had an aisle seat and next to me was a little boy, whose mother sat next to the window. I love children, and so for the first hour of the flight the little boy and I [...]

My wife and I were on a trip to New Orleans (pre-Katrina) and were returning to Nashville on Southwest. The particular flight was booked solid and as we boarded two of the only seats that were available were at the very front, facing the other passengers. It was a short flight so we didn’t mind [...]

Mommy Breastfeeds Her Boy

April 24, 2009 Baby & Kid Stories

I was coming home from college for break, and was flying out of Charlotte. The plane I was in was rather small (2 seats on each side), and I had the window seat on the left side. I sat beside a woman and her baby (well supposed baby), and the father and infant were on [...]

Mother & Doggy: A Special Bond

November 4, 2008 Animal Stories

This story was told to me by a friend of mine, a flight attendant for a company I will not name. This airline allows small dogs in the cabin, but they are to be kept in their kennel/traveling bag. The flight attendant noticed some movement under a blanket that a female passenger was holding on [...]
