Lady with Baby Bothers Bible Studying Seatmate

in Baby & Kid Stories

OK, I need to vent about the flight I just had back to Cleveland. Ready?

OK, I was in First Class Land. I was super excited bccause it’s been a super rough 3 days. THEN, this lady with a baby comes and sits by me and I hold all of her stuff for her while she mixes her baby’s formula. She like asked me to hold her bags for her and hand her stuff. No big deal, I’m always there to help. But THEN this lady starts breastfeeding, in the seat next to me. I get that I’m a doctor and everything but umm… no. So THEN, she changes the baby’s diaper and wipes him and everything IN THE SEAT next to me. I get that I’m doing GI… but no. But that’s not the worst part.

I was reading this Bible study book and had my headphones in. Like 20 minutes into the flight, she taps me on the shoulder to ask the name of the book. I put my headphones back in and keep reading. And 10 minutes later, she taps me again to ask if the book is good. I was getting irritated because I hate talking on planes and I obviously didn’t want to talk to her.

THEN like an hour into the flight, she taps me on the shoulder again and asks if I’ve found the Holy Spirit. So I was very polite and said, I don’t mean to be rude, but I would just like to read, and THEN she goes, “Uh, your loss, I’m trying to give you a gift.”

If you're a doctor, I'm glad you're not mine. You write like a 12-year-old.

I call BS on this post. No way, no how, is this real and coming from a doctor.

Myers October 3, 2014 at 2:47 pm

I'm thinking that maybe she was being facetious, which is why she ended the sentence with "umm…no".

So you are a GI doctor, and poo grosses you out? Huh?

She gives the baby formula, AND breastfeeds? Again, you are a doctor and grossed out by that?

And yeah, your writing sounds like you are sending a text message.

Myers October 3, 2014 at 5:44 pm

Unfortunately that's how young people write these days!

If you're not a fake, then you're disgusting.

Layla Considine February 27, 2015 at 1:21 am

Robert why are you saying that the author of this post is disgusting? What has he done?

Robert October 3, 2014 at 5:39 pm

Check that: if you ARE a fake, then you're disgusting.

As a Pediatrician myself, shame on this author for disparaging breastfeeding. While I appreciate that the author helped the mother out in the beginning, being grossed out by breast feeding is pretty immature and shows a general ignorance about what is best for babies.

And while I’m on my soapbox, you must not have reached the part in your bible study guide that mentions loving one another and being helpful to your neighbors. Or that part about engaging others in the Good Word. Maybe you’ll get there by your next flight.

Breastfeeding should be done in private. It's not the breast that I find offensive but the exchange of bodily fluids. Many things are "natural" and "beautiful"; yet, we do not foist them on everyone around us. Breastfeeding is gross every bit as much as French kissing or sex of any kind. There's a reason some things are traditionally done in private.

Breastfeeding is just eating. Why are you so disgusted by someone eating?

Breasts are best! September 5, 2015 at 12:50 am

would you eat your breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack/anything in a bathroom? ITS FOOD FOR THE BABY thats why theres blankets for breastfeeding moms! YES if i breastfed i would do in public because I DON;T CARE WHAT other people think and babies need to eat!

Yuck! I despise xians trying to sell me the bullshit lies they have locked their minds up with. giving a baby's butt a wipe down on a plane is disgusting, but imagine if you were mom and had to go wipe your baby down in the filthy plane bathroom. It sounds like she gave you several "gifts."

The ironic thing was that he was reading a Bible study book, so she was literally preaching to the converted :P.

flossiesdoll January 11, 2015 at 8:47 am

Why would anyone need to mix formula if they're breastfeeding their child? This story is obviously fake.

Breasts are best September 5, 2015 at 1:00 am

well some people do both

A few things are distirbing about this post:

1: A medical doctor is repulsed by a person breast feeding their child. If the original poster is in fact a qualified and practicing medical doctor then he/she should be amoung the people least bothered by something so trivial.

2. A medical doctor is bothered by human waste produced by a small child. I dont know what field of medicine this person supposedly practices in but often times medical doctors have to deal with patients that have problems with their bowels so you would think they wouldnt be too bothered about a situation like this.

These are just the most obviously aspects of what is wrong with this post. Next are two points which further bring in to question the autheticity of this story:

3: I personally know a couple of physicians and i can tell you : the money isnt great. Certainly not enough to pay for first class flights whenever they want to go somewhere. Those tickets can cost upward of 10000 USD. Which brings me to…

4: A woman with a breast feeding child in first class ? Its not impossible but it is very unlikely.

5. First class seating is usually composed of seperate cubicles. You would not be sitting next to or even in the visual range of anyone.

6. I guess i should mention the fact that this was all supposedly witnessed by a bible thumping medical doctor. Being a physician this would mean that you learned at least the basics of biology and germology which is in direct contradiction to that biblical teaching that all human beings originated from 2 white people in a garden and that washing your hands and plates before eating is not nessesary.

this is story is interesting at least real or not. I'm going to guess they are NOT in the medical profession of the kind we think. Im guessing this doctor is an dentist or could be.

where else is she meant to breastfeed?
