Security Breach at Incheon?

in Airport Stories

After a nice family trip to Seoul, I was at Incheon International Airport going through security when I placed my bag through the X-Ray machine. The man operating the machine stopped the conveyor belt with my bag in the scanning machine, but after a while it came out. I took my bag and made my way to my flight without thinking about anything.

The Next Day……

My dad woke me from my sleep and told me that he found a shaving blade that he used at the hotel in his carry on. Somehow no one stopped him at the security checkpoint. I was confused until I remembered that I also took a shaving kit from the hotel and carelessly placed it in my carry-on. I flipped through my carry-on bag from yesterday and SURPRISE! I also have a potential weapon in my bag!

How could this even be possible? Or am I wrong in saying that razor blades are seen as a security risk?

I love it. "Accidentally" took a shaving kit from the hotel 🙂

The Security folks at airports are people. People make mistakes. It happens. I once accidentally a travel bottle of mouthwash through security right after the new rule about not bringing liquids. Didn't catch me there, but on the way back (same trip) someone tried to take my deoderant thinking it was a gel rather than a solid.

You mean like a razor cartridge, right? Of course you can carry those on planes. You can't hijack a plane with a Schick disposable cartridge. A straight razor, on the other hand – that would be a no no.

sure, what they said. cartridges are permissible but even a str8 razr could prolly make it through unless it was real obvious. the idjits confiscated a can of spray sunblock from me last trip.

Wow, how times change. I remember the good old days when you landed at Kimpo and went thru a metal detector to get INTO the country! And a razor or cartridge blade is easy to miss. Left a safety razor (I'm old fashioned) in my bag and got thru.

It's my impression that a razor is fine to take through on carry-on. I get this impression because I took a dozen flights, and went through security a dozen times, before I realized I'd had my razor in a pocket of my bag the whole time. I was growing a beard so had no need for the thing 😛

I guess it depends on the type of razor….a simple shaving razor is permited I believe…

Right after 9-11, I flew to Portland to meet a client. The client gave me a metal key chain. I put the key chain in my suit coat pocket, and forgot about it.

Later that day, I went through security, and the metal detector went off. I was pulled aside, took off my shoes, was wanded, then patted down, nothing was found, and I was told I could go on.

When I got on the airplane and took off my coat, the key chain fell out…good thing it wasn't a weapon being carried by a terrorist

In 2007 my Dad made it from the midwest to Kuwait to Bahrain and back to Kuwait with his pocket knife in his pocket until they finally found it in Bahrain.
