Miss Moody

in Attendant & Pilot Stories

I was once on a return trip home to the UK with friends and family after a fab trip abroad in the sun. The flight itself was fine and actually quite pleasant. However when we touched down and stopped at the end of the runway, everyone immediately stood up and started to grab their luggage. Everyone is supposed to stay in their seats until we reach the gate. A flight attendant called on the intercom for everyone to sit back down. Of course no one paid her any attention and continued to grab their luggage.

Finally the flight attendant snapped and shrieked on the mike, “EVERYONE SIT DOWN NOW!!!” Everyone froze in surprise and indeed sat back in their seats, some people casting fearful glances at miss moody at the front of the cabin. But I think she did the right thing and I gave her a warming smile and thank you as we got off the plane.

I wrote this story quite some time ago, I almost forgot about it and I didn't recognise it at first. This just goes to show that this is a popular site.

Thanks for your patience Peace Lover! The site had a backlog of hundreds of stories, especially after CNN's Mr. Poopy Pants article was published. We're starting to get caught up, and are always grateful to receive new stories!

Something similar happened to me several years ago. We landed in DEN, were taxiing to the gate and no one would sit down, so the pilot shut down the aircraft 15 feet from the gate. "okay, what's its gonna be? You wanna get your luggage, or you wanna stay here for an hour?" People sat down and latched their seat belts! LOL!

You're contradicting yourself. You call her "miss moody" and then you say she did the right thing. If she's doing her job, which is for the passengers' safety, I think it's unfair to call her "moody".

Does it really matter?

I don't find it unfair to call her moody when the story clearly shows that the only way to solve the situation was beeing moody. So to me, this is a good kind of moody – meaning it doesn't always have to be a bad thing. Though it tends to be used to describe a bad feature, rather than this, more useful kind…

If the airlines were truly concerned they would limit the size, weight and amount of carry-ons, and would not charge to check luggage… they could help eliminate this "safety issue".

The other side of the issue, people are too cheap to pay the 30.00 to check their luggage, so carry on more than they should…and, struggle to get everything out of the overhead bin, before people are lining up behind them, waiting to move.

Not sure what you're talking about, Jim: the safety issue has nothing to do with the luggage. It's about passengers not being strapped in while the airplane is taxiing around the airport.

exactly…but, people feel the need to get up and get their gear as soon as possible, because they need extra time, to get all of their luggage, that they stuffed into the overhead bin

Star Treking across the universe

Ah! We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill;

we come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, men.

I am a big star trek fan myself but I have never heard of that song. Although I do know the anthem to the United Federation of Planets.

Jim, first of all, airlines have a policy as to how much carry on per passenger, and secondly, and more importantly, people have been behaving in this manner way before airlines started charging for checked baggage.

I was going to say this, too.

Had similar thinsg happen quite often…it's a safety regulation…saty seated until the plane is at the gate. Had many FAs yell because people ignore warnings, even had pilots come on the intercom and threaten to call law enforcement.

Peace Lover…I find it rather mean of you to refer to this FA who is obviously doing her job as Miss Moody. Not a nice thing to do, you should be ashamed or mocking someone for doing the right thing.

Hugh, you are such a drama queen. Who cares if he called her "Miss Moody"? Its not like she will ever read this and recognize herself. I am so sure you have never said anything unkind about anyone before and if you have, you should be ashamed!!!

I don't purport to be such a "Peace Lover" and never say a bad thing about anyone. I just think it's a bit hypocritical of Peace Lover, that's all. I'm an asshole, but I don't pretend to be otherwise.

Every time I read one of these stories I become slightly less interested in applying for flight attendant school after I'm done in Japan.

Laura don't let my story or other stories stop you from becoming a flight attendant. It's a great job and gives you opportunities to travel all over the world. As long as you dont become one of THOSE few attendants that treat everyone like complete swill then I know that you will do great at the job. And if you do meet some annoying passengers always remember that you are better then them with youre good attitude and keep up with youre job. Good luck with youre training!

Well.. Did ya guys think that Peace simply submitted a story without a title and that’s just the title the moderator came up with? Attack attack, ask questions later.. good idea. ::rolls her eyes::

So, Peace, did you come up with the title or was it the moderator’s title?

Reply

Gregg - admin June 21, 2010 at 3:40 pm

You're right on target, Jodi, Mr. Moderator here came up with the title, which was based on words that Peace himself used in the story ("miss moody").

Hey guys. Regarding the title situation I would like to apologise if it offended anyone as that was most certainly not my intention. Perhaps I should have thought of a better title.

Once I read the story, I found the title humorous. No worries.
