Where They Can Stick It

in Delay/Cancellation Stories

My husband and I flew on WEST JET to Vancouver one weekend to attend his daughter’s graduation. The flight out was grossly late (I have found out that their flights are delayed approximatley 30% of the time – Hawaiaan Air has a 99% success rate of departing on time). Our return flight was 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon return to Calgary Alberta. WestJet cancelled the flight back. The reason was “safety issues.” You would think they would have a backup plane or try to make alternate arrangements! I was berated by the ticket taker when I politely asked if there was alternate plans to get us home. I was advised the earliest possible plane was 8:00 a.m. the next morning. My husband and I had to be at work at 8:00 a.m.

After sitting in the airport for several hours, I noted that other passengers from our flight were being routed onto another plane. I then called WestJet and got angry. Finally… they could locate a flight. They are liars. They sent us a coupon for $50.00 off our next flight. They can stick it where the sun don’t shine.

If this is true..it's a rare occurance for Westjet…they are one airline that actually cares about customer service..believe me! 20 years in this biz and I can tell you no other airline is as good as them. I have delt with them all!

I agree. I had a fantastic experience with WestJet, going from Vancouver to Calgary and back. My love for that airline knows no bounds…

flown westjet countless times, had a cranky flight attendant once, other than that nothing bad to say about them and not one delayed flight.

complained about the cranky attendant (snapped at us when we informed her the tv screen on the seatback wasn't working before takeoff, we didn't know although all other screen were on at this point, this one would activate shortly after we inquired). complaint was met with concern, sympathy and a convincing apology which is all you really need most of the time.

Airlines don't have a stock of 'replacement planes' just waiting around at each airport in case one breaks down.
