Newlywed’s Flight Filled With Pizza & Puke

in Food & Drink Stories

So here I am newly married whisking my new bride off to beautiful northern Japan where I am stationed. The take off out of DFW was uneventful. Then as we headed northwest the air turbulence began. I assured my new bride that this was to be expected and as a world traveler I knew it was going to end some time. Six hours later it did end and finally food service began. I taught my blushing wife the intricacies of using chop sticks and started her on basic Japanese.

About 10 hours into our 12 hour flight they served pizza. Knowing my stomach I just ate some crackers. I wish everyone else would have followed suit. As we got over the Japanese islands we hit some serious turbulence. The jet was bouncing around in the sky, then I heard it – the sick noise of someone vomiting. Then another and another and very soon about 20 people were running to the restroom to get rid of the pizza that they had enjoyed only moments before. My wife wasn’t affected by the pizza but rather the smell, and being a prepared husband I already had the vomit bag ready for her. As we departed the aircraft we noticed a lot of people were not as lucky to be prepared as we were.

Welcome to Japan my love Koniche Wa.

Well… in proper typonese, that would be "Konnichi-wa"… hope you're not teaching your wife how to write 😉

But sounds like more a flight from hell for some other people, not so much yourself huh.

Did you get your luggage?

almost sounds like Tokyo around midnight on a friday…- Go to Shibuya or Shinjuku station and you'll see what I mean except it's Ramen instead of Pizza courtesy of drunken slarymen unwinding…the flight almost sounds like Tokyo salaryman training… 🙂

Hope you and your new bride enjoy your time in Japan. I believe I was stationed in the same place and loved it (AFB??). If so, and Companion's is still there, have some cheese gyoza for me.
