I was travelling from Atlanta to Newark, then on to Toronto with my then 2 year old. He has always been an excellent traveller by any standards. Plays nicely by himself, looks out the window, no screaming, etc. even back then. But you always get them, lots of dirty looks though from the business class.
About 2 minutes into the flight, seriously, this awful gut wrenching smell emanates from all the vents. Turns out, the cat in a carrier about 1/2 way back the plane is not such a good flier. Seriously stinky – like a bad public toilet in France, capiche? Many people were barfing into the bags. And of course, that doesn’t help… My son spent the entire time crying at the smell and trying to breath through his mouth. Nightmare!!

Several years ago my father adopted a stray kitten and decided to ship it to me when I was in the military stationed in Georgia. So I went to the Augusta airport to meet kitty’s flight and on the way got stuck in a massive traffic jam and was a little late.
I walked into the baggage claim area expecting to retrieve the kitty from a holding area in the back of the carousel but out of the corner of my eye, I saw kitty in her little cage on the carousel going round and round. I’m glad to say she was fine but I can’t imagine what the ride must have been like coming down the shoot!

My husband and I were moving overseas with our 2 children and 2 cats. We arrived at the airport 2 hours prior to the flight (our domestic leg) and waited in line to check in. There were only about 10 people in front of us. My husband was waiting off to the side with our luggage since there was a lot of it.
There were 2 attendants checking people in one at the coach desk and the other at first class. The guy at first class was basically standing around doing nothing because nobody was there and when anyone tried to go over there he turned them away. After an hour another guy came out sweating profusely. He managed to check in one person while removing his tie and unbuttoning his shirt, then he left. Finally after an hour and a half in line another attendant came out. And he turned away every person in line because it was too close to the flight time and they could no longer check anyone in.
When it was my turn they tried to put me on another flight that would have me arriving at 9 pm. I explained that my connecting flight was leaving at 8 so I would be stranded. They got snotty and said we don’t show a connecting flight so I explained that my connection was the military contract flight. She sighed and put me on a flight with another airline. I mentioned TWICE that I was traveling with pets. We got over to the other airline and waited 45 minutes only to discover that they don’t accept pets. So after 3 hours in line we had to completely reschedule all our flights and change our port of entry without so much as an apology from the staff.

I was on a late night flight from DC to St. Louis. The flight was delayed, but eventually we boarded, and I settled into my usual aisle seat. I watched people board, and noticed a disheveled woman with an odd package. She was carrying a duffel bag type animal carrier that was absolutely squirming. Inside was what appeared to be a feral cat. I knew as soon as I saw her that this would be my seatmate. To my horror, my premonition came true. This cat was furious and absolutely terrified. Before we even took off it had used that carrier as a litter box/sick bag. For the entire flight it howled and spun around that bag stirring up its mess. The smell was unbelievable, and the woman appeared to not even notice! I wanted to leap out of a window. It was awful. Poor cat. Poor me.
