We decided to fly my family out of DEN to MEM on a direct flight the week before Thanksgiving so my young daughters could spend more time with Gma and Gpa, and my wife could visit her brothers for a week. I had to work and stay behind.

I was supposed to fly on Hawaiian Airlines today, November 18th, 2013 in Oahu, Honolulu. We were in line to check in our bags. Normally I can carry two carry-ons. The airline agent said only one was allowed and to read the sign. I asked to speak to someone else; she kept telling me to […]

My wife and I were flying home from Vegas a few years ago. We got to our airport departure lounge with about an hour to spare. It was crowded, and we were seated near the end of our row of seats. Lots of luggage was strewn throughout our aisle. The restrooms were located at the opposite […]

I’ve definitely read worse horror flying stories than mine… and mine had some up moments… but, I’ll share anyway.

Here is just a glimpse of the nightmare that we went through which was created by American Eagle Airline. After arriving at Chicago from Miami, we proceeded to our gate to connect to our final destination. While walking to our gate, we noticed that it was raining. It didn’t last long, and actually by the […]

I fly too often for work. I must have flown close to 1,000,000 miles on airlines in Star Alliance which resulted in Star Alliance Gold status on both Asiana Airlines (Diamond Plus) and Singapore Airlines (PPS Club). While living in Guyana in the late 70’s with my family on US government business, my father and I had to travel to Matthew’s Ridge. The trip out on Guyana Airways was fine despite a plane change as the first one had a mechanical issue and the second had to be fueled from 55 gal […]

Boorish Behemoth

in Portly Stories

I had one trip that sticks out in my memory. My wife had departed several days early to MCO and our 4 year old daughter and I were following to join her. We had the window and middle seat. I had tried to get first class but was told it was sold out.

I was flying out of MSP on UAL and it was right after they had cutbacks for United. The flight attendants were really pissed off and taking it out on the passengers, focusing on Premier members. It was boiling hot in the airport and I took off my sweater and put it in a small […]

I’m 17, it’s 1978, and flying back from England after having taken my grandfather home. The departing flight is delayed, and due to union rules or something, rather than flying into DC and then on to Detroit, the plane is rerouted to Detroit, and I have a 4 hour layover very late at night.
