Berated Over Overweight Bags

in Luggage Stories

My family flew to Vienna with Austrian Airlines. Two of our luggages were 1 kg overweight. The flight attendant, Susan, who was checking us in, decided to start screaming at us about how we obviously can’t read because the maximum amount of kilograms permitted is 23. My mom proceeded to start emptying her hand bag so that she could put a book from the suitcase inside and Susan started yelling at her for doing that and telling her that my mom would cause her to lose her job. Susan charged us $170 Canadian for the 2 extra kilograms. And she did so only after yelling at us for 20 minutes and publicly humiliating us. Don’t fly with Austrian Airlines!

Flying from Dulles to Amsterdam, I went to check my bags in (mind you after having flown from Palm Beach to Reagan without a hitch) and they told me that I was one pound over on one of my bags. Well, the other bag was one pound under. They just asked me to move some stuff around, and when that still didn't work out (we got one scale saying 51, one saying 50) they just shrugged and sent me through without charging me.

I don't mean to be rude, but the people at the ticket counter? You're their customer, and I think it's important to remember it. They yell at you for taking a book out of your suitcase? Tell em where to go. Come on, $170? Grow a pair.

First 1 kg over then 2 kg over? I'm confused.

2 bags each 1kg over

2 X 1kg = 2kg

Based one the title, I was assuming this would be a story about getting the middle seat between 2 fat old ladies. 😛
