FA Swings Seat Belt Like a Lasso

in Attendant & Pilot Stories

If this isn’t a flight from hell, I don’t know what it is. We returned, or I should say, we attempted to return, from Maui to Phoenix on flight AA 645 on June 13th, 2024 at 9:26 p.m. We taxied and stopped in our tracks for 45 minutes or so. As we flew first class in the front seat, we couldn’t hear the commotion in the back.

We found out that the flight attendant was either on drugs or alcohol. I heard from several people seated in the back that she took her demonstrator seat belt piece and started swinging it around like a lasso. Several people said that she hit someone in the head with it. It was also my understanding that she was dropping everything out of her hands. I even have a recording of a woman who witnessed it.

Anyway, we had to disembark the airplane because they didn’t have another flight attendant to fill in. We had to wait almost an hour for the luggage to come off the plane, and we had to go back to the ticket line afterwards. As we paid for first class for our tickets, I got into the line for first class only, only to be met by people in line who were in economy, and if their eyes were daggers…

I was told by American Airlines that I had to get in the back of the line. Considering that they didn’t have enough help, and the line wasn’t staggered like normal, over 200 people had to stand in line at the same time, and it took us 3 hours to be served. We didn’t get to bed until 3:30 p.m. Hawaii time, and we fell into the beds. What they did give us was a crappy hotel and a decent breakfast, with transportation. We left the next day after 1:00 p.m., and at least the flight went smooth.

This was a nightmare. Is that enough hell for you? It was for us!
