I’m on the train home at 2:30 am, writing this. I should have been asleep in bed at my parent’s house in Maine. I was booked to take a JetBlue 5:34 flight from JFK – Portland, Maine today. I had called JetBlue earlier about switching to an afternoon flight due to the threat of storms, but was told that the weather report looked fine and there were no delays.
So naturally, we got a massive storm and were delayed until 9 pm. Fair enough. Then 10:15 pm. Then 11 pm. Then 12:30 am. Then 2:07 am. Again, understood.
But then? The flight is canceled 8 1/2 hours later – due to the crew timing out. I joined a HUGE line of people at the customer service desk, all of them thoroughly pissed off. I was told no hotel voucher, no booking on another airline, no flights out until July 4. Now, if this was weather related I could go with that. BUT – the cancellation was due to them not having a standby crew ready. The customer service reps were so rude and horrible – and I’m a New Yorker, I speak fluent rude – but this went above and beyond.
Again, I feel that the delays were weather related and I get that. It’s not having a crew to fly that I feel deserves compensation. Not that they care, but it means missing July 4 in Maine with my family (too far to drive, trains too expensive).

It’s a 60% world,..
The lack of crew was due to the weather. Suck it up. Travel bites.
i think its more the no crew thing that upset this person more.
