in Passenger Stories

I had a 6:30am flight from San Diego to Philadelphia. I was soooo tired, and barely awake getting on the plane. I had the emergency exit row with two seats.

There is a young woman in her mid-20’s sitting next to where I would be sitting. I found a place to put one bag, and then I put my other in the compartment above. There was something that I did (I cannot remember what it was) to trigger the young woman to say “I can tell you travel often.” I mumbled yes. She said something else, and then said “I can tell by the way you travel that we have a lot in common. I feel like I’ve known you forever!”

That jarring line threw me for a loop. Known me forever? I sat down, and she started yammering away about how she had been up for the last 24 hours, and whatever other crap she said. Once I got strapped in, I started searching for my headphones.

Then the Flight Attendant took her seat. The young woman passenger then says “you probably think I’m the type that will just chat your ear off for the entire flight.” The flight attendant and I looked at the woman, then looked at each other in abject fear of 4 hours of this!

I got my headphones on so fast, and started to listen to music before take off, and then (thankfully) the young woman fell asleep. She didn’t talk anymore on the flight to me!

I was so relieved.

My writing does this story little justice. Just imagine your reactions if you had the same thing said to you by a seat mate!

Clearly not a flight from hell.

Meh. Not really a flight from hell. Sack up and say, "I hope you don't mind, but I'm just exhausted, and I'm going to sleep. Thanks for talking to me, it's nic eot meet friendly people when you're traveling!" Even if it's a lie, it'll make them feel good AND get them off your back with no awkwardness.

People just because the website is titled ffh doesn't mean every single story has to be a ffh!!
