I was travelling from Melbourne to Athens via Dubai last December. I hadn’t flown in quite a few years, and my return to the aviation world was less than impressive. From the start I could tell it was going to be fun. I was seated in the middle seat in the centre row (a.k.a prime […]

I arrive at the Milwaukee airport in late August, looking forward to a quick direct flight to Dallas for work. As I arrive, I get an update from the airline: flights delayed for an hour. Oh well, have a couple of beers on the company dime and still get to Dallas in time for dinner.

Here we go with the terrible travel trip. Thursday 5AM: Wake up to pack. 8AM: Arrive at airport. 10AM: Flight to Philly is delayed due to weather. One hour. (That’s fine, I can accept this.) 11AM: Flight is cancelled due to plane not being able to turn left. (Swear on my soul.)

I flew from Newark to San Francisco on September 11, 2014 on United. I had business meetings the next day, weekend social events, and then further company meetings in Las Vegas, so I had packed numerous expensive and varied outfits, etc.

Just to have a little fun, I figure I’d share a few common sense pointers on how to increase the likelihood of having one of your flights end up on this website (or have someone else complain about you here).

Only minutes before takeoff, the seat beside me was still vacant when at the very last moment a harried looking man, clutching a well-worn bag and sweating profusely, looked in my direction as the stewardess pointed him to the last remaining seat. I normally fly SouthWest Air. But they didn’t have a morning flight from PHX to San Antonio. US Airways — US Airways Express — used to be America West Express – really is Mesa Airlines – had an 8:45am flight. Anyway, get to the airport and voila, airplane is 2.5 hours late. Should’ve taken SW […]

When I was in high school, we went on a Caribbean cruise for Christmas. The airline the cruise line made us use was TWA. This was right after the TWA crash over France, so flying that airline scared the life out of me. Nothing happened on the way over other than the plane being really […]

In August 2006 I was flying to Amsterdam from SFO to take a cruise to the Baltics three days later. This was on the day of the “fluid bombers” scare on British Air. American Airlines to JFK to Heathrow, then British Air to Amsterdam. I used miles, hence the many stops. Luckily I was in […]

Dear Delta, We do understand the weather situation. However, our problems originated from technical faults of your airline. The cancellation of flight KL6104 due to technical faults was the catalyst for the myriad of problems that resulted, which included four preceding flights that were cancelled at the last minute with little or no explanation, leaving us […]
