Flights From Hell flies you into the crazy skies with stories about the adventures and anxieties of airplane travel.

Commercial airline travel takes us far, far out of our comfort zone. We're herded into cylinders that zip hundreds of miles per hour at 30,000 feet, subjected to security screenings, confronted with delays and lost luggage, rushed to catch connecting flights, constrained to small seats, scrunched up with strangers, and surrounded by pathogens. Is it any wonder we end up becoming a bundle of raw nerves by journey's end?

Hope Dims For Lost Bag

January 14, 2010 Luggage Stories

Several years ago I was traveling fairly often to Del Rio, Texas to visit my fiance who was stationed there. Del Rio is a tiny little border town 3 hours from anything. Luckily, Continental had recently started flying a little commuter plane in a couple times a day. The only problem with the little commuter […]

The Screamer

January 14, 2010 Passenger Stories

I was flying from JFK to Barcelona, Spain two summers ago. I was traveling with a group of about 30, and of course I was the only one who wasn’t seated near ANYONE from the group. After taking off on the long flight across the ocean, the woman next to me finally says something to […]

Vacation From Hell

January 13, 2010 Baby & Kid Stories

I’ve always wanted to visit Europe. So when a friend invited me to accompany her and her young daughter on an overseas trip I jumped at the chance.  A roundtrip ticket from Charleston to Zurich for $450… EXCELLENT! For that price I could even afford to take my 4 year old son. Well, my dream […]

Comeback For Snotty Remark

January 13, 2010 Baby & Kid Stories

I had just boarded a flight out of Anchorage with my then 2 week old baby. He had been peacefully sleeping until we were in line for take-off. He then woke up and was hungry, not crying really but that newborn mewling they do before the actual cry starts. In the amount of time it […]

I flew via USA 3000 from Fort Myers, FL to Detroit, MI. This by far was my worst experience flying. It was a full flight, and my wife and I were in an the outer two seats with the aisle seat vacant. Of course I had to be the one next to the empty seat. […]

January 12, 2010 Baby & Kid Stories

Two weeks ago I flew from Newark, NJ to San Francisco and there was a couple with a baby in front of me. In the middle of the flight the couple decided to change the baby’s diaper right on their seat and guess what?…was full of poop! You cannot imagine the smell in the plane. […]

Beer Brawl

January 11, 2010 Passenger Stories

I was on a flight from Copenhagen to Bangkok, with the flight going on to Singapore. There were 3 Germans on the flight who started drinking the moment the plane departed, and didn’t stop. No problem there, but they were sitting apart, and wanted to talk to each other. As they drank, they got more […]

Flying the Unfriendly Skies

January 11, 2010 Delay/Cancellation Stories

United: Dulles to London Heathrow Good weather for a 6pm departure, sunny Summer evening. The flight is full. The doors are closed, the preflight brief is given, and the plane pushes back from the gate. We sit 20 feet from the gate for the next four hours while United tries to fix a technical problem. […]

The Case Of The Creepy Seatmate

[Mature content] Not too long ago I was traveling home off-duty from my job as a flight attendant from Atlanta, Georgia to Cleveland, Ohio after visiting with my fiance. This was the last flight of the night and being that I was exhausted after a busy trip; I was just looking to relax and sleep […]

Two Comments About Seats

January 10, 2010 Flying Hell Commentary

#1) We fly coach from South America to the United States with American Airlines at least once a year. In the last years, we have been noticing that seats have been changed. Seats are more close together and they can recline less. This is no problem for a 2 or 3 hour flight; but for […]

A Special Moment Between Passengers

January 9, 2010 Airplane Stories

While seated and waiting for the rest of the passengers to board a full flight from Seoul to San Francisco, the large coffee I drank prior to boarding began to have a laxative affect. I thought I could wait to use the lavatory until we were airborne but my body disagreed so off I went. […]

The Bag Of Barf

January 8, 2010 Attendant & Pilot Stories

I’ve had a lot of bad flying experiences in my life but only one of them ever had to do with the flight crew which honestly was the worst experience I’ve had. It was on a 5am flight from Alberta, Canada back home to Minnesota. I was with my best friend with her mom and sister sitting […]
