Luggage Lost – Twice

in Luggage Stories

I travel internationally 7 to 8 times a year all over the world. Recently on a trip from Los Angeles to Rio De Janeiro via Miami my luggage had the honor of getting lost twice.

Upon arrival in Rio and waiting almost an hour, no luggage. It never made the connection in Miami even though we had a two hour lay over. I was told it would be on the next flight and would be delivered to my hotel. This was Saturday and my meeting was Monday. Nothing arrived on Sunday, so I bought some casual clothes for the meeting since buying a suit was out of the question. The luggage was finally delivered to my room late on Monday while I was out. I looked to make sure it was mine since both luggage tags were gone. How did they know it was mine? Luckily for me it was.

On the return trip, had a two hour layover in Dallas. Arrived in LAX and again no luggage after a 45 minute wait in luggage claim. Found out it never made the layover in Dallas. Luggage finally arrived three days later on my porch, via Las Vegas luggage routing. Don’t ask!!

Sounds like the exact experience I had with a trip from Detroit to Cancun while flying Spirit Airlines. They lost it both ways and it went thru Vegas. The only difference in our stories would be that $500 worth of articles were stolen fom our luggage on the way down and it took 6 days to get it on the way back. I feel for ya.

My dad had a similar experience traveling from Seattle to Dubai – British Airways, luggage lost at Heathrow both ways. When he arrived at Dubai, he had nothing but the clothes on his back and all the markets were shut for the day! At least nothing was stolen.
