Kind Passenger Shafted for Switching Seats

in Seat Stories

Many years ago (15) I was on the Paris to Washington DC flight on an airline I forgot. I seated myself on an aisle seat; a Vietnamese woman and her child were seated next to me.  She was chatting with her husband who was seated behind me. The husband approached me and said that he wanted to be seated with his family and asked if I would mind switching seats. I gladly obliged thinking nothing of it.

Once I moved to his seat I realized why he wanted to switch – the little girl who was seated behind him liked to kick the seat in front. For the next six hours I was subjected to periodic kicks and no amount of complaining could convince her to quit. Her mother just ignored my complaints and there was nowhere else to switch seats. Moral: look before you leap!!!

It might have been an uncomfortable trip, but not necessarily a flight from hell. Kudos for doing the right thing by that family, though.

Definite kudos for helping the family. As for the kid behind you, if the parent did nothing after several requests, the next thing would have been to call the flight attendant over. Is it possible there was a language barrier? Even if the parent pretended she couldn't speak English, how could she ignore a flight attendant speaking her language.

No kudos from me. You should have told him to fuck off. Families who want to sit together should book together. And if the airline separates them, the airline can sort it out. No good deed goes unpunished.
