Security Contacted Over Offensive Comment

in Attendant & Pilot Stories

I was flying from Toronto to NYC via JetBlue. The flight was really crowded, and as we were flying at Christmastime in poor weather, the flight attendants were very stressed – friendly and helpful, but really busy.

As we began our descent into New York, the attendants asked everyone to take their seat, as the fasten seatbelt sign was illuminated. Two male flight attendants were in the aisle, one collecting trash and the other checking the overhead bins.

Even though the seatbelt sign had been on for a few minutes, a large man two rows ahead of me unbuckled his belt and stood up, with his arms crossed, looking impatient for the flight attendants to get out of his way.

The younger flight attendant said, “Sir, you need to take your seat, we are landing shortly.” Not the most polite phrasing in the world, but he said it in a pleasant one.

“Shut up, faggoty-ass,” was the passenger’s reply.

The attendant smiled, then immediately turned to the older male flight attendant collecting trash and, without changing his tone, said, “Please have security meet us at the gate when we arrive, Bob.”

Security was indeed there to greet us! I don’t know what happened after that, but I hope that rude man got banned from JetBlue!

Sounds like a made up story to me

Why is that?
It's not fake, but since there's no way for me to prove that, it doesn't really matter what I say.

There's always a skeptic in the crowd. I find your story entirely believable as I've seen even worse behavior.

Ah, you are correct- but I left FROM Toronto. Thought I was flying JetBlue, but this was several years ago. I sometimes left from Buffalo after driving down there- perhaps that's what happened in this case.

I did witness this, though- I have no reason to make up stories for strangers online. 😉

Checking overhead bins prior to landing? The only time we do anything with the overhead bins is during boarding and we don't check them, we close them as they get full.

Possibly resecuring them due to people getting items in and out during the flight? Totally believable.
