Passenger Admits To Causing His Own Problem

in Passenger Stories

OK I’m from Germany and had just finished school. At that time in our town was the annual Town Festival from Thursday to Monday (Monday night is the last band playing). I asked a friend on Wednesday if he would come along to Mallorca on Tuesday. He said yes and we went to book the trip.

Tuesday came and we were not walking – we were crawling – out of the tent where the party was. Our parents were so nice to bring our luggage directly to the train station where we had to go. We had about an hour and a half to get to the airport.

When we got to the airport we were told that the boarding had already started and we should speed it up or the plane would leave without us. So we sprinted those 200km (at least it felt like it) to the gate only to find out we had half an hour to go.

We finally got into the plane and I sat beside a couple. She was clearly the luxury kind of woman… big hat and expensive clothes. I have to say this was a low budget flight. My friend was sitting right next to two pretty girls and had fun the whole 2h flight…

I tried to not puke the whole flight, and as this was my second time flying I had some trouble not doing so. Something to eat came and it took me two bites to get it into my stomach… not because it was so small, but because I was so hungry. A few minutes later I felt that that was not a good idea, and to make things worse the FA came to sell some perfume. I think that the lady next to me could not stand my bad alcohol breath anymore, as she “accidentally” sprayed a whole load of perfume into my face. I think I went from white to transparent because the FA ripped open a bag in front of me. But I didn’t puke. I was so glad about that.

Having learned a lesson from all of that, I didn’t drink alcohol the evening before the return flight. Funny thing is, this time I was sitting beside the pretty girls and my friend was sitting next to the lady.

I can only say NEVER drink too much before traveling. It is not good; I learned my lesson and will never do that again.

This was a horror flight which could have been avoided by me. I thought I’d tell this story because in most of the other stories on the site someone else was the reason for the flight from hell.

It takes courage to admit it when you'r wrong, but the lady next to you was in the wrong too for spraying you with perfume. Even if you weren't under the influence of alcohol, you might have reacted badly. Some people are allergic to perfume, some to the extent that it can trigger an asthma attack.

It was pretty thoughtless of her to blast you with perfume.

It's also bad if you get drunk on a long flight, fall asleep and then wake up with a plane hangover. Plane hangovers are the worst!

Many of us have learned this lesson going through some version of your experience. Once is usually enough! Now you've got it figured out.

That's a flight from hell alright. Getting the ol' 6 hour virus from previous nite's activity + perfume engulfing you can equal disaster.
