Stuck In Paris Wearing Cheap Clothes

in Luggage Stories

This is a story from 2007:  When I finished school my mother gave me a short city trip to Paris. I packed my baggage with a lot of fashionable clothes since Paris is a real fashion metropolis. As the plane started its approach to land the pilot started a speech which went approximately like this: “Dear passengers, thanks for your confidence, we’re landing now in Paris, but we only have one bag with us. I hope you’ll enjoy your stay in Paris. Your baggage will be sent on soon.”

Everybody was laughing and clapping their hands because they thought it was a joke. I had a window seat and I could see the baggage car driving away with only one bag. I recognized that the pilot’s speech was not a joke. I told this to my mother but she didn’t believe me.

Well I thought, we’ll see. We went to the baggage claim area with all other passengers and waited. “Expected soon” the display told us. After 30 minutes of waiting a passenger went to ask what happened to our baggage. He came back and told everyone that the baggage still was in Stuttgart. Now everybody recognized that it wasn’t a joke. We completed a form and they promised to deliver the baggage this afternoon to our hotel.

The morning after we still didn’t have our baggage, so we bought important things like a toothbrush and shower gel. I had to buy birth control pills in a drugstore, which means I had to explain everything to the druggist in French. But my biggest problem was that I was staying in the fashion metropolis without fashion but in my jogging suit… I bought cheap jeans and a shirt because my money was in my baggage. Every night we washed our underwear in the hotel’s washbowl and slept naked… Then, at the last day of our stay, a wonder happened. The airport called the hotel: our baggage arrived. Thanks… We went to the airport, picked up our baggage and went to check it in. But before doing so, I pulled off all my cheap things and changed into nicer clothes so I could at least have 5 minutes of being in Paris wearing fashion!

From this trip on I never went into a plane without a toothbrush, new underwear, money and birth control pills in my cabin baggage.

You put your MONEY in a checked bag? The airline clearly screwed up, which definitely sucks, but why would you ever put money and medication in a checked bag?

I don't believe this at all, it's different if a few bags didn't get on the plane but for only one to make it? Not gonna happen they would delay the flight to get bags on in that case, and why only one bag? That makes no sense

why would we need to know that you had to get birth control pills if it's for medication just say so

clothes are clothes, even though I can afford expensive jeans and whatnot I don't I just think they are not as comfortable and I don't want to spend hundreds for a name

when I have been in situations that I didn't have my suitcase I would just buy a cheap pair of toiletries if the airline didn't provide me some in the comp bag when you get on the plane

why would anyone leave money in a suitcase or not on on or near them?

Seems like someone needs attention

I don't ever get tired of being such a tool.

Howdy partners. I'm a long time reader of this website. All of you who have left comments on this post make me sicker than a steer that ate sorghum. Get off your high horses and back down on the ground with the rest of us. You all think that you're incapable of making mistakes when traveling, grow up.

How dare you call out this story as being a lie. Have you actually never traveled by plane? The airlines mess things up all the time, and I would not rule this out of the realm of possibility.

If you're all such experienced and wonderful travelers, then maybe you should get jobs with the airlines and help them fix things instead of berating fellow travelers.

A r s e s!

Uhh, like James said, they would delay the flight. You can't have one piece of luggage or none on a full plane. If this ever happened, it would make all the news channels.

excuse me, like David said.

It does to me — they loaded the bags on the wrong plane and didn't realize until after takeoff, and notified the pilot in flight. Very stupid on the part of the ground staff, but plausible.

As for the rest, novice traveler mistakes, but we were all novices at one time, that's how we learned.

Everyone knows they mess up, but having no bags at all is just not going to happen, they don't make that kind of mistake with so many bags, the pilot would know that the flight would be too light without the bags and he would question this and they wouldn't take off

they wouldn't close the hold if they saw no bags there, the pilot would know before they left the gate

and John Wayne I travel by plane alot, pps member on singapore airlines which is higher then the frequent flyer programs and this wouldn't happen since they check the weight of a plane before takeoff and they already have a measure of check luggage weight when you check in so if the plane is lighter than normal then they would investigate

David,

Thanks for your extremely arrogant comments. So, what, if we're not pps members of Singapore airlines then our opinions aren't valid? Just face the fact that anomalies happen all the time, some times even defying logic, just like what happened with the luggage in this story. Can't you just accept the fact that your frequent flyer miles don't make you an expert on the airline industry and its terribly inefficient workings?

I agree with David. This story seems fake from the leaving money and medication in her bag, the plane taking off with only 1 bag, and sleeping naked with her mother which is just plain creepy. This seems like a sob story to me. Sorry, I don’t feel bad…

John I was only stating that I fly (regulary) to your comment about prob never fly so if ur gonna say something like that and then with the answer I gave u still try and turn it around again….point being I stated that I fly alot and have seen what can happen

again the flight wouldn't take off due to weight differences and the pilot would know before takeoff that there were no bags inboard and they would be scratching their heads and it is obvious when a plane has no bags on so they wouldn't fly till those questions are answered otherwise it is a huge nightmare for the airline and when it is a prob like this then the flight won't take off since there would be a chain reaction

also there was no need to tell us about her bc pills that was used for attention

I have never heard any captain say thank you for your confidence or a monitor say expected soon and I have been to CDG a few times

Hi moderator, I know on a previous story that you were moderating an imposter, as you can see he has posted another comment so I think it should be removed as it does nothing for the purpose of posting

as I am using my iPhone there isn't a capability to reply to a specific message

That right there just makes it sound hinkey to me…

A woman stops taking the pill mid month, you get your period within 2 days. I would have done the same thing. I'm sick of ignorant comments on here. I enjoy this site but think comments should be disabled as some just troll here to stir up arguments. It's getting old.

ROFL, birth control pills with her mother.

Karrie,

That's not the point. The point is that we think the story is fake and with the repercussions of not taking birth control why would she keep that in her checked luggage? Even if the story is real which I don't believe it is, this person is a moron.

Why's everyone so upset about the contraceptive pills? It was a short stay in Paris. If she'd stopped taking the pills, she wouldn't have been protected when she got back home. And why does mentioning them make her an attention seeker? People have sex. People use contraception. Some people here need to grow up.

Also, I believe she mentioned the pills because she had to explain this to a pharmacist in French… which probably was more than a little embarassing for her.

Story sounds like complete BS to anyone who flies regularly. But even if its true it serves her right for wearing a jogging suit on the flight. Sure comfort is important but if you're tacky enough to wear sweats out in public like that then who cares what happens to you.
