Steamed Over Seat Separation

in Seat Stories

Travelled Malaysian Airlines on a family holiday. This was the second time I had flown with them and after encountering problems both times I won’t be flying them again.

We travelled as a party of four. The flight to Malaysia was fine (apart from a questionable landing in KL). The return flight was the problem. This was before online check-in and seat selection was available. We arrived at the airport and were informed the airline had made a mistake and we had been scattered throughout the aircraft.

My parents were eight rows apart and my boyfriend and I were fifteen rows apart. We were told we could be seated in couples at least if we made ourselves known to the flight crew once onboard. Yeah right.

The flight attendants weren’t interested. I was in the middle of two strangers. My boyfriend had an aisle seat and neither of the people next to him were travelling together. My parents ended up being seated together only after they refused to take their seats and the flight attendants found a spare space for them.

I spent the next six hours staring at the back of my boyfriend’s head as the entertainment equipment in my section didn’t work either. To top it off the girl in the aisle seat had a cold and spent most of the flight rugged up in a blanket leaning on my shoulder. Of course I woke up with a cold the next day.

Stop your whining! It's the airlines job to get you there. If you want it to be a romantic adventure then take the Love Boat next time.

I would fully back you if you were in a situation where you were seated separately from your young son and/or daughter, but that's not what happened. You're adults and this frequently happens. It's not especially pleasant not being able to sit next to your boyfriend, but get over it already.

Just finished a trip where my wife and I were separated on a leg of both our departure and arrival flights. After spending 15 days in a cruiseship cabin together, it's not too hard to tolerate a few hours in different seats. Not a flight from hell.

Seriously? This is by no means a flight from hell. You should be able to entertain yourself through a 6 hour flight.

Not Flight from Hell. Your family is not going to anywhere in the plane by the way and 15 rows is like a 10 meter distance, surely walkable.

Your boyfriend hates you and it's matter of time before either:

he ruins himself, or he dumps you.

Malaysia Airlines is a Skytrax 5 star airline and when you pay the extra bit of money for a better airline, you EXPECT a better airline!

YOU paid the extra bit of money for a better airline???? As a teenager with a boyfriend…really? You EXPECT a better airline with all your vast experience? You have flown all of twice…right? How disappointing it must be to fly with grown ups but not not big enough to ask someone to change seats with you….whaaaaa…..you really sound like a spoiled brat with more expectations then money

No I am not the OP. I was suggesting a reason for her disappointment. She did say she was traveling with her parent though so I'm sure they were the ones who arranged the trip.

Now calm down and stop over-reacting.

The mile high club is overrated, besides your parents were there!

First of all….Oh BOOHOO!

And another thing, you can't get a cold the next day from being exposed to one.

What an idiot.

What an immature, spoiled, selfish dingbat! Can't sit for a few hours apart? You soon will break up for a stupid little incident anyway because that's the mentality you kids have.

If you woke up with a cold the next day, you didn't catch it on the flight. Colds take longer than that to develop.
