Trashy Teen Called The C-Word

in Seat Stories

[Mature content]

My partner and I had just attended a wedding in Palm Springs and flew the last flight of the day out to PHX, which was our layover to PDX. We were tired from a long week of fun and festivities and were due to work the next morning.

I boarded the plane, sat down in my seat and tried to doze off. It was 11:30 at night and all the other passengers on board were doing the same except for two teenage girls directly behind me who were talking loudly.

As we ascended, I felt my seat lurch forward several times. I peered behind me between my partner and my seat. One of the loudly talking girls had her knees pressed against the back of my seat. I looked back at her disapprovingly, but she ignored me.

As we leveled out at altitude, I went to lean my seat back the 1 1/2 inches some airlines deem enough room to get comfy. No sooner than I leaned my seat back, I felt a violent kick to the back of my seat. The teen age girl started kicking my seat and screaming, “Excuse me! You need to put your seat forward!” The kicking to the seat did not stop.

I politely rose, turned around and demanded that she stop kicking my seat and said that I have a right to lean my seat back. She continued, “You’re a dick! I am claustrophobic. You can’t lean your seat back.” I pushed the button to summon the flight attendant. All the while, the teenager continued to scream and curse.

My partner, tired, stunned at her impudence, and very impatient, rose, turned around and stared directly into the little brat’s eyes, and said,”Listen – don’t you EVER call my partner a dick. You little CUNT – STOP kicking the back of his seat.”

She was stunned and replied, “You can’t call me that. I’m only 17!”

My partner replied, “If you can act like a spoiled little cunt, you can be called one.”

The flight attendant finally made it to our seats and tried to handle the situation. She was not very successful in subduing the little brat. She offered the girl or myself a jumper seat, but I refused and so did the girl. As the flight attendant walked away and I was sitting back down, the girl kicked the back of my seat again, full force, and yelled, “DICK.”

There was an ass-hole sitting beside the girls who tried to subdue my partner because my partner had called her a cunt. The ass-hole got into my partner’s face, but backed down and tried to ignore it all.

We landed with a few more small incidents. The girl immediately called her mother on her cell phone and in a very demeaning tone, asked where her mom was waiting. Because her mom was not waiting in the “right” spot, the girl started berating her mother.

It was a truly horrific experience. I hope the trashy little girl a life of misery for the way she behaved. I was embarrassed by my partner’s language, but I am proud that he stood up and reprimanded the little brat.

Dear Teenage Brat,

If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

Well, I agreed with you up until the point where you and your partner lowered yourselves to the level of these immature kids. While they were wrong, one might use the inexperience of youth as justification form them…you get no such break. You were old enough to know better. It's a pity we don't get the Flights From Hell stories from seatmates nearby about the adults getting into a scrap with some dumb kids. Grow up.

Ditto, Ahole.

Especially seeing the word "partner" used several times, I'm assuming this is a male male couple who is used to glaring stares and dirty looks by mentally challenged can't think outside the box strangers.

Watching your partner getting verbally reamed by some spoiled out of control typical American teen-age brat was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. Kudos. One day someone will actually punch this kid in the mouth.

i wouldnt assume that so i wouldnt jump to conclusions

i know of many relationships that the partners refer to one another as my partner as it seems more personal, like oh yeah my boyfriend or my girlfriend can just seem to feel that it is just a friend of that gender to some people

chances are it is man/wife if married

a funny way that you could have resonded would have been…….your old enough to fly without mommy but your not old enough to take care of yourself or defend yourself but its fine for you to use grown up words but people cant say the same to you? your not that important and sorry that you fell out of the ugly tree and hit ever branch on the way down

let me guess your seat is reclined? should i be a child and ask to sit behind you so i can kick your chair just so i can feel that i have that much more self important egocentric crap ya shut up and go cry to daddy im sure he'll by you a pony for your traumatic experience

I agree 100% with the o.p. Today's teens are becoming spoiled brats. I say we wipe the bad ones out painfully.

Well, I remain that reclining one's seat is just ridiculous. As you point out, it only reclines 1.5 inches anyway. Is that 1.5 inches really that important to you the recliner? … Because that 1.5 " does make a lot of difference to anyone over 6' tall that has to sit behind you. The airlines should make the seats stationary.

With that said. As long as the seats recline, you do have a right to utilize that function. However, inconsiderate it is to those behind you. But, your call. And, if I were behind you…I would not say anything…I would just consider you to be rude….but, such is life.

This girl sounds like an immature brat. And, sounds that she needs to be put in her place. However, that is not your partner's place to do so. It sounds that you handled the situation well…you were calm…you did not resort to her name calling….and, you called the flight attendant to straighten out the situation……your partner however, by calling a young girl, (or anyone for that matter), a name….just stooped to her level. Remember when you waller in the mud with pigs…you both get dirty. Your partner comes across to those around as just as much of a brat as this girl.

Jim,

When you drive your car, do you keep the seat straight up? It's uncomfortable isn't it…? Then why, when the availability and right to do so exists, should we not use the recline function to make ourselves a bit more comfortable, particularly when the pitch of seats nowadays is essentially unreasonable. It's not rude or inconsiderate at all, provided you don't just throw yourself backwards when you recline.

Ron,

Actually, when someone rides in the backseat of my car, I move my seat forward and straighten it up. It is only polite. My back seat is small, with little legroom…just like an airplane.

Again, the 1.5" pitch of incline does not make that much difference to the person in the seat. But, to the 6' +person behind you, it does make a lot of difference.

One of the problems with our country today, is we all like to exercise our "right" to do something….even at the expense of others. What happened to compassion, consideration and just good manners?

Yeah, it's your right to recline. But, given the cramped quarters on a plane, it is inconsiderate if the person behind you is of average or above height, (something for which they have no control).

jim the 1.5 inches can make quite a big difference in comfort. or atlest it does to me

Jim June 22, 2010 at 10:16 am

Just think of the difference it makes to the normal sized person sitting behind you……if you recline, you can be touching or leaning on their knees. If you don't recline, it could mean their knees are not up against a hard object.

Be considerate…..

@ Jim,

You keep mentioning how the 1.5" doesn't make much of a difference……well then it also doesn't make much of a difference to the person sitting behind. And you can't help but throw in how much difference it makes to the 6' plus person sitting in the back, how many 17 year old girls do you know that are over six feet tall? think before you throw in your incoherent two cents.

I really doubt this 17 year old girl was 6". She was just a spoiled brat. If you can't handle being on a plane when the seat in front of you is reclined, you shouldn't fly at all, at least not on a red eye. Unless you can afford first or business class.

Yeah I if I was that tall I would probably try to find a seat that had more legroom (girls can get that tall though so don't judge because it is still possible. what gets.me is she was kicking the back of the seat in the first place! I think the girl is a spoiled brat because of what happened after they got off the plane! Unfortunately, they couldn't use the exit row seating because of the age but maybe once this girl turned 18 maybe she will get a better seating arrangement.

Well.. I am truly sorry that you had to deal with such unruly brats! And by that I mean the one beside you and the one behind you. I understand the need to defend one’s partner, however, to do so by calling someone else a name just shows how immature your partner is. Intelligence and maturity is shown by your capability to communicate and control your emotions. Perhaps you need to explain that to your partner.

I personally enjoy having my seat reclined. I was recently on a redeye from LAX to ATL and was in an exit row (one without extra legroom). I had moved from my original seat because a nice man wanted to sit with his wife and baby who were sitting next to me. I accepted, knowing that I wanted to sleep during the flight. I got to my new seat and realized that seat did not recline. I can't remember which aircraft was used, I think maybe a 737, but it was the first time I had a seat that did not recline at all. I have always been one to recline, but this flight I realized how much of a difference it actually makes for me. I am very small. So small, that when the seat is upright, I am forced to hunch over. When I can recline the seat the 1.5" it is designed to recline, I no longer have to hang my head, slouch, or slide forward. It is actually convenient for my row mates as well because I can curl up into a ball and the space between my seat and the seat in front of me is clear for bathroom go-ers… Jim, while it might be uncomfortable for a 6' person to have the seat in front of him reclined, it is equally uncomfortable for a 5' person to have the seat completely upright. It is all a matter of perspective. I don't consider myself rude for reclining my seat to avoid a stiff neck for weeks after a flight:)

Yeah I think it's the seats just before the exit row seats that don't recliners back.

I reckon we should lock the little tart up in the first class toilet , and really piss Alex off !!!

Whatever happened to respect for elders ? Tell ya something , If I ever heard that my daughter did something like that , being grounded would be a mild punishment !!!

Maybe an obnoxious little bitch might have been a better word though , as it conveys the message better but , in the heat of the moment .

Why didnt the FA get that little tart arrested on landing ? Possibily scare the shit ioutta her , and just maybe a lesson would learned , but I also doubt that from how she addressed her own mother .

Dad , you didnt do your job very well , now didcha !
