Snooze Troubles Seatmate

in Passenger Stories

I was on the way back from my brother’s wedding in Pittsburgh to Paris via New York. Sitting next to me was an over excited girl in her 20’s who started chatting the minute she sat down about how this was her first time flying to Europe, she was so excited, I had to hear all about her boyfriend and friends… etc.

At some point (not sure when) I fell asleep (I was exhausted having only flown in a few days earlier plus all the wedding celebrations). I awoke when the plane landed and when I turned to this girl to wish her luck on her trip and all, she had the nerve to tell me off for falling asleep! She actually told me that she thought that I was very rude because she was in the middle of talking to me! I am not rude by nature so I felt bad, but honestly!

The only rude person in this story was the over excited girl. You're under no obligation to listen to her prattle on about her life. And she had no right to say that you're rude, because you weren't.

It sounds as though this young lady thinks the world revolves around her and if you, a complete stranger, aren't interested in listening, then in her eyes, you're rude.

She's going to get a real shock to the system when more and more people tune out her self-involved prattle.

I wish I could have seen this girl in Paris where I'm certain the French would have told her to shut up.

Clare is right — the girl is the rude one, not you. Quite often I'll plug in headphones and ignore the person next to me ; I don't always have the music on, but the person sometimes gets the hint and leave me alone.

I was returning home from DFW to PHL and a very attractive young lady sat down next to me. I was reading a book, but politely greeted her. Her response was, "I don't talk to creepy old men on airplanes." (Memo: Buy Grecian Formula)

At 9:00 am the next morning I was involved with my first interview for a sales associate position and as fate would bring us together again, guess who was interviewing for the position. I often wonder where she is now employed.

So you interviewed her? What was her response when she saw you?

That is hilarious! There's a reason why job hunters are told you'd better be nice to everyone when heading to an interview, I guess that also includes folks on your airplane!

You were not rude, she was. Let it go.

There was probably a good reason she was travelling alone.

Seat mates who run their mouths with drivel are worse than screaming set kickers.

A simple hello will suffice.

Most flyers have enough of human interaction (TSA, etc) and just want to get the flight over with.

Not to say, however, that TSA smurfs are human.

I never talk or greet people taking a seat next to me . They are total strangers to me and unless they say something, I will answer but keep it to a minimum. I just like to mind my own business. But, if someone steps on my "Blue suede shoes " or getting on my nerve, I sure will give them a piece of my mind.

With social skills like those, I can only imagine she returned home without a European lover. The American dream, SHATTERED

I'm pretty friendly in life including on planes and enjoy talking to people, but I'm also not autistic and know when a conversation is dying.
