Ex-Wife’s Fear Of Flying

in Couples Stories

I wanted to plan a trip to Cancun where I had vacationed a few times before. I was single at the time and the all-inclusives were based on double occupancy, so for a few hundred more it was worth bringing a travel mate. My ex-wife, yes ex, and I got along well, so I asked if she wanted to join me. I knew she had a fear of flying and that is why we never flew in the 9 years we were together, but I didn’t realize how bad it was.

She was crying when they asked us to board; she held up the plane to even get on and then started screaming when the door closed. They let her off. We had discussed prior to that if she ‘chickened’ out that I would still be going. I mean it is my ex!

The FA asked if I would get my ex’s bags and carry them with me on vacation and bring them back on the return trip so as not to hold up the plane any longer searching for them. I agreed.

What I wasn’t ready for was the return trip. When you return from Mexico coming into Detroit, as a single male flier with 4 bags of luggage for a 6 day trip… you’re definitely being sent for baggage search by customs. Now I’m 6’2” and 240lbs. My ex is 90lbs. Guess which bag they opened first? Holding up a pair of her jeans like he was sizing it to me he asked “Whose are these?” I answered “My ex-wife’s.” He said”‘EX-Wife? Where is she?” I responded that she got off the plane. He asked where. I held back from saying at 30,000 feet, thus the ex part since I knew I was going to already be there for sometime. Believe me, I was. I never asked my ex to fly again.

If your ex-wife's fear of flying was that severe then she should have tried to get a sedative from her doctor to calm her down before the flight.

If it was that severe she should have declined to accompany the OP.

What are you, stupid?!? Who would bring someone that scared of flying onto a plane. You were married 9 years and didn't know she would freak out. I think the two of you should be beaten and kicked in the ass just for being stupid. The people writing this should have been the ones inconvenienced by you and your ex and the silly display put on. I want to pimp slap you SO badly!

I wrote this and it is true.

To Clare, she did get a sedative but took it to close to the flight time to be effective.

To Peace Lover, My ex flew prior to us getting together but gained many fears after one of her pregnancies. She overcame many of those fears while we were together. This was her first attempt at flying again and an attempt to get over her fears. I also have an IQ of 134 far from stupid. Sometimes it is impossible to know how someone is going to react to theirs fears until they are put in that situation. There is only one way to try and that is is to test it and face your fears. It did not work in this case. If you have a Gov't issued flight simulator at your house we would be willing to come over and use that first next

Although we have freedom of speech in this country, I would like to ask the Peace Lover be blocked from the cite since all of these posts are simply attacks on others. This is not a site to simply attack people for the sake of it because you hide anonymously behind a computer screen. If these kinds of posts are allowed to continue, the site will be ruined. Peace Lover, please take your caustic hateful speech to a more appropriate venue.

aaron,

I checked the IP address of the Peace Lover that you're referring to, and see that it differs from that of the original Peace Lover. In other words, it's an imposter, which is in violation of our Comments Policy. The poster will be banned if he/she continues to pretend to be someone else.

It's Ok Aaron. When we go to use Peace Lovers' simulator then he can try to Pimp Slap me. I think he missed the part that I'm 6'2" and 240 Lbs. We'll youtube it because I'm pretty sure Peace Lover will be doing a very good reenactment of my ex screaming like a little girl.

Craig – maybe you could have said those were your jeans before you discovered the wonders of a great Mexican meal…

Allen – lol, I do tend to gain a few pounds on vacation at those all-inclusives but it may be because of the unlimited drinks. Just went to the Dominican Republic 2 weeks ago and it took me 3 days travel to get back to Detroit. Another horror story but no funny ending.
