Airline Won’t Take Responsibility For Behavior

in Passenger Stories

I had a terrifying experience on a Continental flight from Houston to Honolulu on January 21/09. I was seated beside a man who was obviously not from the US – he was rude and kept pushing my arm off the armrest, and then told me he was stronger than me and he would prove it. I am a 66 year old lady who asked him to stop. I advised one of the flight crew who said he would keep an eye on him.

This passenger continued his verbal and physical tirade until I got up and went to speak to the Flight Crew Manager who immediately seated him elsewhere. He was flying with his family members (18 of them I believe) to get married. His fiance heard his barrage on me and asked him to quit – she was told to shut up and mind her own business.

I filed a report with the Continental Honolulu rep and then received a letter from Continental. I wrote them back and told them the complete story – all they did was write back and say it wasn’t their responsibility for their passenger’s behavior – whose then is it??? I am still terrified to think about another flight and especially with Continental not looking after the problem when I first brought it to their attention. Any ideas or suggestions??

Wait a minute–guy was a ass, you complained, cabin crew agreed to watch him, guy kept at it, you complained again, crew moved him away from you. Based on what you've written, it looks to me as if they resolved the problem.

Is there something you've forgotten to share? What else would you have had the airline do?

Looks like the crew did their job and move the troublemaker to another seat. What more would you have the airline do?

That being said, I hope his fiancée had second thoughts about marrying such a person.

What exactly are you looking for them to do? You informed them, they took corrective action…what else do you expect? Oh….freebies, you want a refund or a future free trip. They did everything they could or should have. Take a big girl pill and get over it.

The guy was an asshole. Just put it aside and move on.

Perhaps you would have liked the Captain to taze him and lock him in the shitter until landing.

No, I agree with the logger 100% on this one.

Go on this flight a few more times. If this guy isn't there anymore consider the problem solved.

I applaud you for your good grasp of modern technology, grangran. 🙂

The airline did what they could. They moved the man away from you when you complained. The airline is not responsible for his behavior.

He was a grown man and is responsible for his own behavior.

Perhaps he was mentally challenged. He sounds like he acts as a disobedient 8 year old.

The world is full of rude people. My best advice is to just laugh it off. 😀

Oh how scary for you. I'm sorry this happened. Unfortunately, the airline did do all that it could do to protect you. In the future if you are still worried you might want to travel with a companion.

There is something I don't understand. What does the fact that he was not American have to do with the story?
