United: Dulles to London Heathrow

Good weather for a 6pm departure, sunny Summer evening. The flight is full. The doors are closed, the preflight brief is given, and the plane pushes back from the gate. We sit 20 feet from the gate for the next four hours while United tries to fix a technical problem. To conserve fuel, they minimize the use of A/C. By 10pm with a cabin full pf passengers ready to mutiny, they decide to let the passengers off while they wait for the repair. Perfect timing, they waited until the restaurants were closed so they wouldn’t have to hand out food vouchers.

One hour later, we reboard the plane, push back, and sit for another hour and a half. Finally they deboard the plane and put us on another plane. For the people that pushed for some compensation, United handed out $25 flight vouchers that once you read the fine print were less than worthless.
