Grandma Is Stuck In Dallas With No Luggage

Well, this story takes place on a trip from El Paso, TX through Dallas/Fort Worth and then on to Dulles, VA. The trip out to Virginia was fine. No problems whatsoever. The way back however is a different story. I was meeting my 76 year old grandma in Dallas/Fort Worth. Well to begin with, I have a 2 hour delay out of Dulles. Not too bad. I call my grandma who is meeting me after flying out of Oklahoma City. Her flight has been canceled and they are busing all the passengers down to DFW. Well, the bus and my plane arrive in close proximity to each other. I went straight to the ticket counter upon landing and requested a new ticket for the next flight out. My grandma does the same thing. I get a ticket. She does not. The attendant at the gate counter refused to give her a ticket even though I was her traveling companion and I had a ticket. The woman was downright rude.

Now keep in mind my grandma is a 76 year old woman that cannot walk long distances and has never been outside of the DFW airport. Her luggage ends up on the flight I got a ticket for. She has only her purse. In the meantime, the flight is delayed 2 hours because of weather. So finally the plane leaves. My grandma is stuck in DFW and I’m on my way to El Paso. The airline refuses to pay or even reimburse her for a hotel room. She ends up having to pay for a cab and traveling to almost the other side of Dallas/Fort Worth to get a room because all of the rooms at the airport hotels were full.

So I finally arrive in El Paso at 12 midnight. My uncle has to come and pick me up because no one else is available that late at night. We pick up all the luggage and take off for Las Cruces, NM. We don’t arrive at my grandma’s place (which is where I’m staying for the duration of the trip) until 1:30 am. Meanwhile, my grandma is stuck in Dallas with no luggage. She gets back to airport with the help of the people at the hotel. They were more helpful and courteous than were the people at the airport. So she finally arrives in Las Cruces at 3 pm the day after she was supposed to. Talk about a hellish trip. She was so frazzled and upset that she spent almost the entire rest of the day in bed. The only time she got up was to eat dinner.

It would be nice if airlines and attendants had better attitudes about things. I know that they put up with a lot of crap during their job shifts but the least they can do is try to be nice to somebody that’s being nice to them.

You left grandma behind in DWF all by herself just so you could get home to her house in Las Cruces?

What kind of a grandchild are you?? expecting the airline to take care of 76 year old grandma when you wouldn't???

I work in an airport and I see way too many old folks who "cannot walk long distances" trying to get on a flight because their family couldn't be bothered to help them.

I have comforted and dried the tears of too many older folks who were scared and confused because they got stranded when their flight was cancelled. All because their family didn't care enough to make sure they got on the plane.

What a creep you are, you don't deserve to have a grandma at all.

She’s never been outside of DFW? Was she born in the bathroom and did she have her own kids there as well? 😉

My thoughts exactly! You selfishly left your grandma to fend for herself in the airport, knowingly took her luggage with you, then had the audacity to write this story complaining and looking for sympathy? Shame on you.

I have to ditto the feelings of the other posters. Why shoud the airline or the airport be repsonsible for her care when you wouldn't even do so. Shame on you. I hope you enjoyed the night you spent at HER house while she slept at a hotel.

I wish I could say something nice.. but I was thinking the same thing. There’s no way I would leave my mom let alone my grandma alone in an airport. I’d have them switch my ticket to her name and let her go and get home. Then I’d fend for myself. No way I’d go ahead and leave her without knowing she had a ticket. No way.

You must have felt a pang of guilt with your grandmothers face pressed up against the security wall, as you jetted away into the sky…..

Leaving a poor old woman behind to possibly sleep on airport benches.

You are a douche. I really hope you made this story up.
