An Expensive Cup Of Starbucks

in Delay/Cancellation Stories

I left SNA Orange County Airport on United Airlines with my final destination “Fargo, Dakota.” Our connection is through Denver. We landed on time and it was a nice flight to Denver. I proceeded to my departing gate connecting to Fargo, and waited as other passengers were waiting. Our departure time was 3:45 pm. Then we were informed that the flight was slightly delayed. One hour later, we had been informed that finally our connecting plane just landed. Everybody was cheerful and happy, especially me since I had a business meeting at 9 am the following day. So I was happy with the thought that I would be checking into my hotel and rest before my meeting. Then the personnel in the boarding gate announced that we would start boarding and everybody was lining up.

Unfortunately for the last 11 of us at the end of the line, we were denied boarding. The personnel explained that our original aircraft was switched to go to North Carolina since it’s a bigger aircraft and it was needed. So we ended up with a smaller aircraft that sadly did not accommodate the last unfortunate 11 of us. I’m not sure what some of the other 10 passengers had done, but some of them chose to take the morning flight. But for me, that could not serve the purpose of my trip. So I approached customer service and explained my situation to them, so they offered to send me back to Sta. Ana (SNA) airport at 6 pm which I honestly had no other choice but to take. So I went to Starbucks coffee at Denver’s airport and ordered a large mocha coffee. Then I went back and boarded my plane back home to Orange County (SNA).

Ten days later, I was informed that United Airlines did not owe me a refund except the portion that I did not complete to Fargo. But they still charged me for going to Denver and back on the same day. It hit me really hard that I should make it to the Guinness book of world records for the most expensive Starbucks mocha coffee any idiot had spent in the world. Five-hundred and twenty-three dollars – and forget the hassle and the self parking and other expenses.

Your way to nice of a person, and you let the airline off of hte hook. Instead of telling them that the next morning wouldn't serve your purpose, I would have had them figure out how to get me to Fargo that day. From Denver they shoul dhave had plenty of choices on how to get you there. If that proved to be just too much for the airline I definately wouldn't have accepted that I had to pay to fly to Denver and back for no point. Seems to me that if they can't fufill their contract to get you to your final destination and they send you home, you shouldn't have to pay them at all.

You choose to fly as a means of travel, the airline has the right to change aircraft to accommodate flights that have a higher demand. You should have rented a car and drove to Fargo. You should have rented a car and drove to Fargo, next time you want to complain take the Starbucks, stay home, and **** yourself.

It is called Rule 240. If the airline cannot get you to your destination within a specific time then they owe you a refund. BTW the airlines hate it when you know this rule.

And madachode, please take your own advice.

Is there a "Report" function on this site? Personally, I've had enough of Madachode's ignorant crap and I'm not interested in seeing his hateful comments everywhere. I understand that I do not have to read them, but he's just generally disrespectful and inappropriate.
