The Man With A Beret

As I was flying from Auckland NZ back to LA USA (a 12 hours flight), I got to sit next to an older European man with a beret. He said he was travelling around the world. But he smelled like he’d been at it for at least 3 days, both body odor and breath. I tried to be polite, answer questions, and watch the in-flight movies. But I was happy to get up, as often as possible, and go for a walk around the plane. Seeing how the rest of the flight was going was better than baring the odorous brunt. Let’s just say, it was the longest 12 hours I’ve ever had on a plane.

that sounds like it was unpleasant.

But my mind keeps coming back to the beret. What is the significance of the beret?

It does seem like it should be significant, but then, this is not exactly a novel, and he is not exactly Joseph Delaney.

Demo… He's saying that French people stink.

And, having spent a good bit of time in England and France, I have to say that it's not exactly an untrue statement… Most Europeans don't have the same cleanliness habits we tend to have in the US. And as Americans, the Japanese think that WE stink… so…
