Beverly Hillbilly Summer

I am a flight attendant for a major airline. Back in the early 90’s during the Gulf War when no one was flying, the airlines lowered the fares to the point where everyone could fly, even people who usually take the bus. Needless to say, there were a lot of people on board that were not very sophisticated. We called that period our “Beverly Hillbilly Summer.”

I was working First class and handing out hot towels before the meal service. I had a “Beverly Hillbilly” sitting in First that had been upgraded from coach by the agent since the flight was oversold. He was wearing a tank top and when I went to hand him the towel, he proceeded to wipe his hands, his face and then washed both of his armpits! I was mortified. I picked up the towel with my tongs and threw both the towel and the tongs in the trash. Truly disgusting.

I remember that season! The baggage claim was full of stuff packed in garbage bags, luggage that didn't close wrapped in duct tape to hold them shut.. Passengers not knowing how to sit, families with 2 parents and 10 kids all traveling together…

I hope you disinfected the seat afterwards too 🙂

Which brings up that old joke… How do you hide money from a Hippie? Put it under the soap!

Sorry to here that all us traveling without Louis Vuitton are trailer trash. At least he washed with the hot towel you handed him. He could have blown his nose and handed it back to you.
