Flying Becomes A Headache

in Illness/Medical Stories

I was flying from Canada to Germany in the Bulkhead area, so I had roughly 3 feet of space in front of me. I always take extra strength Advil on the flight as I get a migraine once every couple of weeks, however I had never had a migraine on a flight before. We had an issue with our carry-on so I had to stuff it into my luggage, forgetting to move the Advil.

Three hours later I have the worst migraine of my life. The flight attendants were wonderful but could not give me drugs (of course). My husband is holding ice on the back of my neck (I had developed a bad fever) and my seatmate (a total stranger) is holding my vomit bag (which I never had to use, thank goodness!). The plane is watching me with eager interest.

Then, some idiot comes and stands right in front of me – his crotch right in my face. For one and a half hours he regales us with stories and tells me how he took Advil, he feels great, etc. When I ask if he had an Advil that I could buy, no sorry. He literally tells me I should have taken Advil 4 TIMES. Luckily I couldn’t summon the strength to strangle him. My husband (who I also could have strangled) finds the guy funny and listens to his stories. Finally I am so sick they ask if there is a doctor onboard who administers a marvelous migraine drug. The minute I feel okay he goes back to his seat. That was the flight from hell.

you do realize you kinda made this your own flight from hell

you forgot to change the advil into your carryon after having to check that bag in

also it seems like you never asked the guy to leave your seat, and there was no reason for calling him an idiot….when it seems like your the one for not askin him to leave…while he was saying that advil helps, and that seems like he was giving advice and some people put themselves into stories to show you it works

and it couldnt have been too bad cause im sure that your husband would have said something

You've apparently never had a bad migraine. Speaking or any exertion is nearly impossible.

I wonder if david secretly was that idiot and now he feels embarrassed.

haha funny, i am here in singapore so i highly doubt that

besides many people were probably lookin since the fear of H1N1/swine flu

and i bet that if she asked the guy to leave her alone he would have obliged, and worst comes to worst the flight attendant would have came over and asked him to sit down

and i dont appeciate being called an idiot since she was the one who put herself in that situation and didnt do anything to help herself out other than offering to buy advil

Well, I find it hard to see you as anything other than an idiot. You apparently don't see why it's perfectly reasonable to forget something small like a bottle of pills when things aren't going the way they're supposed to, especially when, odds are, you won't need them anyway. And you also apparently don't know just how terrible a migraine can be. Just working up the will to speak can be a horrible experience.

And stop talking about being in Singapore. Nobody gives a shit.

you dumbass i was just sayin that the passanger couldnt have been me, even though i know you were jokin around, and jeez i said singapore once so its not like i was talking about it at all, i mentioned it smartass

i know it is easy to forget to make the switch, but if you have a history of them than your more likely to remember, and why didnt she just keep it in her handbag? sure it wasnt that big that it had to be checked it

my point being, still is she made it a flight from hell

Wow… and I thought I was hard handed. The writer knew it was her fault she didn't have the Advil, and never blamed anyone for that but herself. Sometimes, a hellish flight is your own fault.. this is one of those times. She's not out there whining about the airline being mean (in fact, she was kinda complimentary there).

Here's my take tho… If I know someone's sick, I don't stand over them talking (that's just rude), and if it was my wife, I wouldn't be talking with the person, I'd have my arm around her, and be trying to keep everything quiet so that she could rest as much as possible.

Bad guys here :: Talker & Husband

Yes – flight from hell – I wouldn't want to be in that position myself. I suffer from migraines occasionally and having one on a plane would indeed qualify for a flight from hell.

So not all the stories are amazing, involve people picking their toes, or being gross or even stupid. Some flights from hell are just an example of plain old misery.

To the writer – sorry you had a rough time

gottaloveit and David are both idiots. Only Saw has the right perspective here.

Oh Hon.. how horrible for you. Migraines suck and having some idiot stand over you chatting with your husband didn't help. I so hope you wrung your husband up one side and down the other when you felt better. Next time he'll know not to encourage people. He could have asked the idiot to leave on your behalf.

As for David & Gotta…As the saying goes, you can cure ignorance, you can't cure stupid.

Why don't the last two of you actually read my comments. Jesus Christ, way to bandwagon. Morons.

I'm not on anyone's bandwagon. I meant it as you can't teach David, so quit fighting with him.

bulkhead seats don't give you three feet; maybe an extra 30 inches. Unless you meant exit and not bulkhead. At least there was a Doc that came to your aid…. and the poor soul sat next to you holding your barf bag?? That's holy commitment to Karma.
