No Kids Under 10 Allowed

in Baby & Kid Stories

I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t think children under the age of 10 should be allowed on planes. They simply can’t sit still or be quiet. I was travelling from DC to OK City. Naturally, I got a Mom and her boy behind me. I kid you not….he kicked the back of my seat for the first 45 minutes. I asked his Mom to please ask him to stop…he did, for all of three minutes. After another 15 minutes of having my back pummeled by this kid, I stood up, turned around, and yelled at him “Quit kicking my seat! Keep it up, I’ll come back there and kick your seat.” His mom shot me the look of death, but the kid go the message and behaved the rest of the flight. Yeesh…some parents…

Children whose parents plan properly for the flight are not a problem. A responsible mother brings plenty of things to distract/occupy her child.

However, I am more understanding of a child still learning impulse control than I am of an "adult" who is yells at children and still hasn't learned to control his rage. I completely agree with the previous poster who said that you should be banned from planes, but I will take it one step further and suggest counseling.

Bet you felt pretty good about yourself after that.

Yeesh…some passengers…

Wow, who's the big man now? Good for you for intimidating a little kid.

Do I enjoy 6 hour flights with screaming children or having my seat kicked? Of course not! Should kids be banned from flights? No.

Don't be a douche.

Dear MJ

WOW You can swear and act like some uneducated person…….

Good for you, saying a filthy word over the internet…..

I wonder what you would do in his situation, wait you might just give the boy a lollipop and praise him.

You know, I subscribed to this site a few days ago, and since then I've mostly seen a lot of overreacting and hyperbole and few legitimate flights from hell. You should have talked to the mother again, and if that didn't work, you should have called over a flight attendant.

Freaking out like some kind of psychopath was not the way to go.

People like you should be banned from planes!

Yeah. let me leave my kid at home to while I am on vacation, great idea. You are obviously childless and miserable.

Where is an Air Marshal when you need one. Your parents should have taught you some manners and that thing they call patience.

Bet the OP was a seat kicker as a kid too.

There's nothing wrong with 10(-) kids, its just the parents that rear them. I've been on plenty of flight with well behaved children. Merely doing a genetic match between an obnoxious parent and a unruly child is what makes sent.

you're an asshole. had you yelled at my child like that, i would have broken your nose before you had finished your sentence.

The OP was a douche. Punching him would have gotten you an aggravated assault charge.

WAY TO GO, I say! Good form! Yell at that little snot-nosed jerk!

If parents cannot teach their children proper respect and manners and COMMON SENSE, then someone is going to do it for them.

All of you wusses whining about how that little brat is SOO INNOCENT and how the adult is such a perfect example of how a parent should be have ZERO clue what you're talking about.

If I kicked the back of a guys seat SO LONG that he had to ask my mother to 'request' that I stop, she would take me into the bathroom and tan my hide, then hang it out the window to dry.

It's not about a 'macho' trip. It's about not having a little wanker kicking your seat for eight hours.

Man! It's always the perpetrators who are innocent with you morons.

Honestly, I would yell too. Parents need to parent; the rest of us shouldn't have to do it for them.

The mother should have tried to control her child. However, you should have reported to the FA first. Rather than you having to resort to yelling at a child, perhaps the FA could have assisted in the matter.

What if instead of a child, the passenger behind you was a 6'6, 250 pounds wrestler kicking your seat? Would you have yelled at him too? YOUR parents were probably much worse at parenting than this kid's mother, otherwise you would have some good manners! Grow some balls, mister.

Given the choice between the screaming kid who doesn't know better, and the arrogant, overpriviledged twit who is pissy because he didn't get his upgrade or his exit row aisle seat, hogs the armrest as if it belonged to him, then stuffs the overhead bin with a roll aboard, garment bag, computer case, and his suit jacket, I'll take the screaming kid.

Even the one from my last flight who screamed for three hours straight while dad turned up his iPod and mom pretended not to hear him and read People Magazine…

Wow. The only thing that this guy did wrong in all of this is that he let it go on for 15 minutes before yelling. He should've given Mom another shot at it after a minutes or two of kicking. If mom couldn't stop it the second time, then screaming may have been warrented. I'm more likely to scream at Mom though and let her deal with her child…

FA's may or may not have been able to do anything if the flight was full…

I agree, kids should not be allowed on flights until they are ten. I would have screamed bloody murder as well. Having children is a choice; the least you can do is rear them correctly. Some parent….

I can't see it being fair to ban under-tens, but there are a lot of people pandering to misbehaviour these days.

This poster had every right to address the child directly. The fact that the kid isn't an adult is irrelevent. He was disturbing the passenger's peace, and he needed to be told. If the mother didn't like it then she should have controlled her own kid.

to all you gutless turds who bitch about the guy who didn't appreciate his seat being kicked by that little turd factory of a kid:

i too would have taken a slightly different approach but still completely understand his rage. get a flight attendant to get the little jerk under control. that should remedy the situation. if not, then give the little bastard a whupping.

I once heard a man tell a little boy the if he kept kicking his seat the wings will fall off the plane. Result..No more kicking…2 hrs of screaming.

Leslie June 22, 2010 at 12:56 am

I would have done the same thing. Little brat should have been tied to his seat or drugged! No kids under 10 on a plane, I would so pay more $$ for that!

Have any of you had to endure a child kicking you in the spine because his mother was sending him the message that it was ok to do so while making obnoxious sounds or screaming their heads off? try it sometime. I came off a flight one time with back pain and with my back spasms triggered because some a**hole little kid was kicking my seat repeatedly for half of a 2 hour flight and the parents doing nothing to stop them and no apology to me. Id have lost my sh*t too!

So you speak up a second time, if that doesn't work you complain to the FAs. yelling and threatening a child makes you even more poorly behaved then the child. Kids should sure as hell be allowed on flights, how do you expect them to learn how to behave on a flight without ever being allowed on flights? Life doesn't work that way. Those that shouldn't be allowed to fly are parents that refuse to tell their spawn 'no', drunk obnoxious adults, adults that think they have more rights then everyone else and rude people that can't control their anger.
