The Nose Picker

in Passenger Stories

On our way home from our honeymoon in Las Vegas in July, we were seated in a 3 seat row on a full flight. No seat was empty. My husband had the window seat and I was in the middle. It was hot and the AC didn’t seem to work. Then an older man with messy hair, overweight, the waist of his pants rolled down with the top of his underwear rolled over sat next to me. He immediately shoved my arm off the arm rest and leaned over towards me. I was shocked. He was breathing heavily and had what looked like food stains all over his pants. My husband offered to switch seats and at first I declined.

Once the flight took off it became apparent that the AC situation was worse, and this man wasn’t concerned with personal hygiene or personal space. Then he started picking his nose and wiping it on his pants. He was reading a magazine and started dozing off – leaning closer as he did, then waking up, snorting and again picking his nose – Vigorously!!

I asked my husband to switch seats with me. He did. But the picking of the nose, and snorting, the leaning and dozing and the taking over his share of personal space continued through the whole flight. It was a nightmare!

Ugh, gross. With a habit like that, one should at least carry a handkerchief (and not use his pants as one)!

The horror! How did you ever survive the flight! Hey, at least he wasn't using YOUR pants as a handkerchief.
