Followed By Frat Boys

in Passenger Stories

On my most recent flight from Chicago to Tokyo, a 12+ hour flight, seated three rows behind me were a small group of guys. Evidently, they were frat boys on a drinking vacation to the bars in Tokyo and were eagerly talking about their plans. It wasn’t bad enough that they could be heard above the usual din of coach seating, but one frat boy was particularly annoying. He would accent his remarks with an annoying “heh, heh, heh.” Every comment or question. Even when eating, he would mutter “heh, heh, heh” between bites, and not even saying anything.

As the plane chased the twilight, I thought, “Good, at least he’ll go to sleep.” But no, I woke up no less than 6 times to that nasally irritant. On the way back, wouldn’t you know it? That same group of frat boys were seated three rows behind me AGAIN. This time, I just put on the complimentary headphones, and although they weren’t comfortable at all, I turned up the volume on whatever was playing. Even then, I could still hear that “heh, heh, heh” occasionally when the audio was low or between songs.

It's possible that was a result of a speech impediment or tic. Especially since he was doing it while he was eating. We have someone at my work who does that. It's involuntary. You might thing about trying to be a little more compassionate and a little less offended by something so minor.

Had he instead injected "global warming" into every sentence I'll bet all and any global villagers onboard would've joined right in.

Get some backbone. A young man in a movie theater did that once for about 5 minutes.

I got up and went over and yelled into his face "shut the fuck up".

He did. The movie was great.

And then he drank a full pot of coffee, ate a box of sugar cubes, then pulled his shirt over his head & wandered back & forth up & down the aisle saying, "I am Cornholio! I need TP for my bunghole!"

Hahahah! That 'heh, heh, heh,' bit was hilarious.

Particularly the idea of him doing it between bites.

Though as the first commenter stated, it DID sound like tourettes, or something of the sort.

He had Tourette Syndrome. Instead of being annoyed by him, you could have tried to help him. He needs help.
