Seatmate Intrudes Into Personal Space

in Seat Stories

I was recently on a flight from Hong Kong – Dubai – Sao Paulo on Emirates Airline. Oh how wrong I was when I thought that my last flight to Sao Paulo was going to be peaceful.

A lady sat down next to me and two hours into the flight she put her elbow halfway into my seat and fell asleep soon after. I was not going to let someone invade my personal space, and so I GENTLY moved it back to her seat, and she woke up with a very angry face. She glared at me; thankfully I was watching a movie and avoided her glares for the rest of the flight.

Every now and then the woman would move her elbow again into my seat, and I just gently kept moving it back into her seat. Luckily there was an empty seat next to me, so I was able to get some rest. If you have a similar experience like mine, just do what I did and everyone will be happy.

WAIT! You had a lady on one side of you and an EMPTY SEAT on the other side of you…. Why didn't you just move over a seat so the EMPTY seat was between you and the lady? That way you BOTH would have enjoyed having the extra space of an empty seat AND she wouldn't be able to intrude on your space. Sound like you were being pretty selfish!

This flight had a 3-4-3 coach seating arrangement: http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Emirates_Airline

If you're in a middle seat in the '4'. switching may have been just trading one bad option for a potentially worse option. (Though, I suspect, one might have put up the middle armrest and used both seats.)

17-inch wide seat for a 14 hour 55 minute flight… That, by definition, is a flight from hell!
