Unruly Kids Tamed by Threat of Curse

in Baby & Kid Stories

I was flying from Sydney to Melbourne not long ago and had the pleasure of sitting in front of three of the noisiest, misbehaved kids I have ever met. Their parents had bought seats in business class and did not once come back to check on their kids.

I was seated next to a 14 or 15-year-old girl in the middle seat, and on the aisle seat next to her was an old lady of about 50 who I later learned was her grandmother. The kids started kicking the grandmother’s seat, and despite glares from the granddaughter, they did not stop. Once the children figured out what a fun game this was they started with the girl and me as well. I complained to an FA who said in a sullen tone that it wasn’t her problem. Everyone near us glared at these children who did not seem to care.

Finally the last straw came when one of the children hit the grandmother’s seat particularly hard and the old lady hit her knee on the seat in front of her. The granddaughter kneeled up on her seat suddenly and starting saying some words ominously in Hindi or Urdu. I had lived in India for a while working in a bank and knew some Hindi, but all I could catch from her words were “doll,” “banana” and “water.” The children stopped and stared in fear, and she finished almost chanting these words.

She then said, “I have put a curse on you and it will take place in three days. Stop kicking our seats and maybe I will remove it.” She promptly sat down and crossed her legs. Miraculously we did not hear a peep out of these kids for the rest of the flight.

I approached her after the flight and asked about this. She laughed and said she was saying random words in Urdu and hoped it sounded evil. She told me her grandmother had a knee problem and she would not have scared the children like that if they hadn’t hurt her knee.

I applaud this girl and hope some of you try this trick since it seems to work.

Old lady of about 50? OP, you must be a kid yourself if you think 50 is old.
Kudos to the granddaughter for faking out the kids and a huge thumbs down to the parents for not supervising their kids.

More common than you might think, especially in countries where it's culturally acceptable to get married at an early age.

I remember when I once thought that someone who is 30 years of age was over the hill. It's all a matter of perspective I guess.

There ought to be some sort of rule about parents getting seats in different classes/areas than their children. They're just expecting the FAs and the people around the kids to 'take care' of them.

You're right. The girl should have just put them across her knee, one by one, and spanked their asses off. Oh yeah, I bet you disapprove of that, too. Too bad, then, that you weren't there so you could "engage" and "reason" with the three "young adults" in question so they could understand the error of their ways. That would've worked wonders. Uhuh.

Oh, relax. It worked, didn’t it? And it didn’t harm the kids in any way.

I was once on a Dash 8, a regional turboprop aircraft. I had a window seat. The obnoxious little shit behind me, who was sitting right next to the propeller, decided to play "find out how hard I can kick the seat in front of me." Strike one. I turned around and glared at the mother. A few minutes later, he started kicking again. Strike two. I turned around and said to the mother, "Please control your child, or I will do it for you." She said something to him, and he stopped kicking. Ten minutes later, he was going again. Strike three. I turned around and told him, what happens if an airplane propeller throws a blade. Down to every last gory detail. The kid spent the rest of the flight whimpering in fear, and when the mother glared at me, I shrugged and spent the rest of the flight in peace.

God, why is does it seems most of these stories of crazy young kids involve indians? I know thats kinda racist even though an abnormally large percentage of my very close friends are indian(maybe its the Brit in me).

It's all kids ranging from Age 3 through 9. Regardless of race. Kids are brats because parents don't discipline them.
