Traveler Burdened with a Broken Leg

in Passenger Stories

After breaking my lower leg on a trip to San Diego, I was placed in a non-weight bearing cast and given crutches. I returned to Milwaukee 4 days later and had to transfer in Chicago. The little plane had lots of stairs to climb and I had to carry a legal sized carry-on bag and my crutches. I asked airline staff for help and was ignored.

Finally, a gentleman carried my crutches up the stairs while I hopped up the steps one at a time with my small carry-on. I then ended up in a middle row seat with the crutches. The FA promptly stored them away for safety reasons. I did manage to hop to the bathroom once during the flight.

After landing, I waited for everyone to exit the airplane. A FA asked me why I hadn’t exited and I told her that I needed some help getting off the plane. She retrieved my crutches and gave them to me. I had to go down the stairs, so I finally just threw the crutches, hopped down the stairs and picked the crutches up from the ground.

I entered the waiting area and still had to walk to baggage claim on the other side of the airport in MKE. I went to the counter and begged for wheelchair assistance. They came about twenty minutes later. I wanted to hug them! They were so nice, and even wheeled me to my car. Moral of story: Don’t break your leg on a trip!

I traveled on Delta after knee surgery and they went out of their way to be helpful. Even upgrading me to economy plus for more leg room and having a wheelchair waiting even tho I didn't ask for one. I'm not a member of the Delta mileage club. Maybe it was the airline you flew.

maybe you should stay off the internet instead of being a burden of a douche.

She had two good legs when she l;eft home. She broke it at the other end. It must suck to be such the negative, heartless 'person' that you are.

Sounds like an airline problem. I generally try to fly Porter, and they go out of their way to help people who have mobility issues for WHATEVER reason. I couldn't imagine ignoring a passenger who needed help getting around. That's insane.
