Travelers Assailed by Angry Gate Agent

in Airport Stories

In 2010 my mother and I were flying from Eugene, Oregon to Columbia, South Carolina. We were all forced to wait for two hours for an old United Express CRJ-200 that would take us to San Francisco. After waiting for two hours for “weather delays” we finally were rushed onto the cramped 50 seater. By the time we got to San Francisco we had missed our connection to Chicago via United main line. We were told to go to the United kiosk where at least 100 people were waiting to get rebooked onto other flights.

After the long wait filled with sobbing and angry people, we approached an old Chinese lady behind the desk. Now keep in mind that I have no issues with anyone from any other race, but she was the most horrible person. After 20 minutes of her typing on her computer mindlessly, she finally got us separate connections with my mom going through DFW and me going through JFK. Well that was a problem because the whole point of the trip was to see my brother graduate from Army boot-camp the following day. After explaining that to her, she BLEW UP in our faces and told us to “GET LOST.” Frustrated, we were forced to fly back to Eugene via Portland on Alaskan. Never again United!

And people wonder why I won't fly….Flying has changed over the years to a torture session. It will be a frosty Friday in July before I even think about flying….

As well as telling us I hope your told the Airline in question about the treatment you rec'd from this agent.
One thing to complain to us but to ensure this might not happen to somebody else the carrier should be notified.

You say “weather delay” like you didn’t beleive your delay was weather related. But given that you are dealing with airports in OR and SFO low ceilings are realistic scenerios….

And why the hell would you stand in a 100+ line with one agent?! Use your phone and call reservations next time!

You say that you "have no issues with anyone from any other race," but why did you mention that the agent was Chinese? It doesn't seem that the fact that she's Chinese was relevant to the story. (I do agree that her treatment of you was horrible.)

Exactly, she could have just said "old lady", no need to add her ethnicity and then quickly add a point about not being racist lol

Sometimes people bring up race, ethnicity, weight, etc, as a way of identifying them and do not mean any harm.
