Tiring Trip from Warsaw to Toronto

in Odds & Ends Stories

This tiring trip took place at the end of the summer of 2007. We had been at Warsaw Okecie International Airport. Our original trip was to fly with Wizz Air to London Luton airport, then from Gatwick to Toronto Pearson. We started by going to Terminal One in Warsaw looking for our flight. After waiting for a while, we were notified that our flight was going out of the temporary terminal Etudia. It was difficult to get directly to the terminal, and we got lost for a little while. Once we got there, we had to wait in the one very long line for our plane and for a few hours. It wasn’t pleasant considering it was a very hot day outside.

Once we got to the front, we found out our flight was overbooked and we had to wait for the next one. Luckily, there were some no-shows and got on the airplane just in time. We were all seated far away from each other (family of four). Then the plane was delayed because of a mechanical issue.

Once we got to Luton, we had no help to Gatwick for our transfer and got lost in the underground of London. We finally got on the right train and dashed to the airport. We made it to the airport, and once we reached the gate they said we missed the Air Transat plane by 10 minutes even though the lady had just closed the door. We waited for almost six hours for another Air Transat flight to Montreal. We got on the plane and it was fully packed. The plane went through turbulence for more than half the flight and the service was less than pleasant.

We got to Montreal and waited for an Air Canada flight that we had to pay for. We found some relief when we got on the nice, clean and almost empty Airbus with excellent service. However, the lines at customs at Pearson were very long and annoying.

Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but I can't believe anyone in their right mind would book such a routing, considering the fact that there are nonstops available on LOT, as well as same-airport connections through all the major European hubs. The airfare savings must have been REALLY substantial! If this was booked through a travel agent, I hope you've used the four years since then to find yourself an agent with more common sense!

Chris, Is English not your first language or did you write this after flunking the 3rd grade?

There is no customs (yet ) in Pearson when you arrive rom Montreal Quebec, Canada to go to Pearson in Toronto Ontario, Canada – flying on Air Crapada … just thought I'd point that out.

Since there are direct trains from London Luton Parkway to London Gatwick – how did you manage to get lost in the underground of London? All you have to do is stay on the train till you get to Gatwick.

Would it be rude to point out that most of your problems seem to be the fault of your own lack of planning? The Underground is not that hard to navigate. When travelling on any transportation system you are not familiar with, you should familiarise yourself before you get there and get in trouble! Maps are available online and at the stations. It was not the airline's fault you arrived late because you couldn't figure out how to ride a train.

Okay, first of all, during that time lot was really expensive and we had family in London that we wanted to visit. Second, on the way from Luton to Gatwick, we stopped to meet with our relatives and had to take about 3 other trains. Oh and Sacha, yes it would be rude to point that out since it was still a long flight from hell regardless of who's fault

never visited Toronto, but London yes. Traveling in trains is the one cheapest and exciting way to reach destination. Why not you used the train travel from London Luton.
