Snarked At By Security

in Airport Stories

Back in 2005 I had to take an emergency flight back home to California when my father died. I know that last minute bookings get a special code for extra screening. I had my purse and my laptop with me, and in the laptop bag I shoved my CD player and a couple of books.

I got snarked at for wearing tennis shoes (I needed them for support, slip-ons don’t work for me), for not taking off the shoes in a timely manner (gee, I didn’t realize I only had 20 milliseconds to kick them off), snarked at for taking so long to put them back on (darn those laces), snarked at because I had two CD players – well one of them happened to be the DVD player/CD burner on the laptop. Not really the same thing. And finally told that I was wasting my time reading such dirty books – they were romance novels and not really good ones at that. I didn’t think it was the TSA’s business to police what I read.

Oh, and I was told that next time, I’d better not book such a last minute ticket. Yeah, I’ll remember that next time and ask my mother to plan her death accordingly.

Nothing about this story rings true.

I am confused was it your mother or father that died? Looks like we got snarked by this lame ass fake story

I assume she was planning for the future with her "I'll ask my mother to die conveniently" commentary.

UMMM… I think the poster was being sarcastic, Father died inconveniently for the TSA agent..so maybe Mom can plan her death in the future, so the poster does not have to buy a plane ticket at the last minute……pretty simple to understand, and I believe it, except the books part.

I, on the other hand, completely believe this. Especially if the OP was female. There are some jerk-ass TSA agents out there with huge chips on their shoulders. 🙁

I've encountered a small number of TSA agents who act like jerks. They have all been female. Most TSA agents I have seen, both male and female, are reasonable people doing a job.

When dealing with TSA agents you must remember that these are people whom have, for the majority of them, NEVER had any authority over anyone in there entire life. Because of this, it goes to there head.

Maybe it's the location? I had to book an emergency round trip ticket, a one way (emergency) ticket and get the pass to meet a minor all in a 30 day (give or take) period out of BWI.

It was bad enough, the TSA agent who got to wand me got to do it all 3 times.

All he said – with a grin – is "we gotta stop meeting like this".

I definitely think it's the location. The worst I've experienced is LAX. SEA is okay, and MSY was a breeze the couple of times I've been through there. I think the busier airports tend to have the biggest jerks – which I can understand, since they probably see a lot of crazy shit. (It's not excusable, of course, but I can understand how one might get there.)
