Yapping Dog

Last year I flew across country from San Diego to Hartford during the holidays. As I was waiting near the gate I noticed woman talking to her dog that she had enclosed in a pet carrier. I didn’t think much of it since pets are allowed on some flights. As soon as the flight took off the dog started barking incessantly. It got worse when there was turbulence and the dog would bark louder and louder. This was a 5 hour plus flight and the dog didn’t stop or rest, it just kept barking.

A flight during the holidays is stressful enough as it is without disruptions. At the end of the flight practically everyone seated near them wanted to strangle the dog’s owner and the dog too for that matter. As everyone glared at her she said, “She usually is really quiet on flights.”

Signed, Give your pet a sleeping pill!

My fiance's dog, aside from being well trained and likely to emit a small yip if turbulence is high, generally gets a benadryl before flights. He really does have allergies, so it's not like he's being drugged up for no reason.

Being 5 pounds, in a small confined space and stuck under a seat would make me feel claustrophobic too…but the real issue is training.

A chute to the cargo cabin should suffice for poorly trained dogs, small children with inattentive parents, people who think they own their piece of the sky just because they came up with the $199 last minute fare…….

A chute to the cargo bin….perfect idea! Use it for stinky people, unruly kids, obese that can't fit into the seats, drunks, loud, obnoxious people, or for the too big luggage that people drag on board….or, anyone else that we generally do not want to travel with. 🙂

I love animals. But, I would never travel with mine on a plane…because I would not want to put her through that. And, I would definitely not want to disturb anyone else that may be allergic to dogs…or, in the off case that my dog not fly well.

Sasha, my fiance's dog, is so good people are startled when he moves his head. They think he's a stuffed animal or something. A five pound Pomeranian…..

Besides that, I wonder who gets access to the 'cargo lever'. The person in the seat behind, or an anonymous vote for the person in 19B. LOL the mind enjoys the possibilities. A free flight for whomever gets voted off the heated cabin and has to endure -30C steerage (cargo).

I once flew nonstop coast to coast on a flight where there was a dog in cargo that barked and howeled the entire flight. A big dog from the sound of it. You could clearly hear it in the cabin. That dog didn't shut up once for the entire five-plus hours. It was annoying, but I mostly felt sorry for the dog, who was clearly terrified.

Jim, there would not be any people left in the cabin, unless the obese one got stuck on the chute down to the cargo compartment…
