Plane Etiquette

in Passenger Stories

I was flying back from Malaysia yesterday on Etihad and had specifically requested a row of three seats as I was making a 28 hour journey and was hoping to catch some shut eye on the way back.

You never know with these requests whether they will process, but on this occasion I was lucky enough to note that I was the only passenger that they had granted this liberty to – must have been the dark ring sympathy!

Anyhow, before we took off, some guy who was sat on a 2 seat next to my row hopped across and decided to ‘join the fun.’

Obviously I couldn’t say anything to him because technically it wasn’t my seat, but I was seriously annoyed because his position meant I had to sleep up right for an 8 hour leg rather than cozy down…

Nothing outrightly wrong with what he did but SO FRUSTRATING and just needed to share.

Next time, pay for the 3 seats.

would you like your own red carpet next time?

dont you think that is a little selfish as the other guy probably just wanted a little more space and there was still a buffer zone (1 seat) between you

i fly long distance all the time, im going to singapore from nyc soon, so thats a long flight, and i dont cry or get annoyed if i dont have space that i didnt pay for

if you need the space then either buy the 3 seats or buy a business or first class tickey

Expecting a row to yourself is a little uppity, but still, I feel the OP's frustration.

I was on a WN flight, which of course has open seating. I was like A5, and my son A6, so we got window and aisle seats in the exit row. The plane was only 1/3 full, so I was kind of pissed when this big and tall dude decides to plop himself down in the middle seat between me and my son. There were plenty of empty rows, so WTF? I'm pretty sure he was trying to get us to move, so we didn't

Shame. That sense of entitlement is not justified.
