Getting Even With Bad Attitude FAs

in Attendant & Pilot Stories

I want to start off by saying that after flying over 2 million miles in the past 20 years, that 99.9% of the flight attendants that I have flown with were fantastic professionals who deserve our respect and admiration for doing a tough job. However, once in a while you get one with a really bad attitude and you have to take action.

On a transatlantic flight from Rome to JFK last year during the initial beverage service, my flight attendant dropped a Coke in my lap. She kinda laughed when it happened. She handed me a single napkin, which was not enough to soak up an entire Coke from my clothing and when I asked for more napkins she got indignant. And she was not apologetic about it.

So a little while later when walking around the cabin with a water and coffee tray, she managed to splash my head with water. By this time, I had pretty much determined that it was not an accident. After the food service, while she was going through the cabin picking up trays, I decided it was time to take action. I “accidentally” dumped my tray and drink all over her when I handed if off. I had no more problems from her for the rest of the flight.

Do not believe a word of it.

THAT NEVER HAPPENED. If it did… you would have been taken off the airplane in handcuffs by two very big burly men with badges. Shall we call that "Assaulting a crew member" or "interfering in the duties of a flight crew?" Both felonies.

Come on… he wouldn't have been escorted off the plane for "accidently" spilling his drink on her.

"Accidentally" spilling the drink AND tossing the meal tray? Nobody is that good of an actor.

I interpreted it as more of a fumble than a toss.

I go back to my original post- It never happened. This is an old story from the same files as "Bad Chicken" and "Baby in the Overhead Bin."

I call B.S. on this one. As others have mentioned, there would have been Feds and PD all over you upon landing. Like Aaron said, two wrongs don't make a right, especially when it comes to "retaliation" against flight crew members. If you get a FA who has an attitude problem, best thing to do is just smile and nod, and go about your business, and don't react negatively towards them. Like it or not, they do have the upper hand when it comes to controlling the goings-on on their aircraft. Post 9/11 has given them so many "powers" its ridiculous. You look at one wrong and they can have you escorted off the plane and thrown in jail. This is the world we live in, sadly.

So they should have just sat there with wet pants and head?

Hard to believe, but probably true. A similar thing happened to me on Alitalia (two-fer spills) several years ago except both really were accidental and I got an apology plus a few extra cocktails.

Sometimes when you combine tight aisles, passengers who are just the perfect size and other factors I have had passengers that I have spilled on more than once in a flight. It was purely accidental and I took care of the situation and apologized (along with a smile and several free cocktails.) What I am disputing is the launching the drink and meal tray at the flight attendant.

Simalar thing happened to me on a longhaul from London to Hongkong. Third time the Trolly Dolly came round i was waiting for her with my Magnum44. I lit up a cigar….looked her in the eyes..and asked her if she felt lucky?. The rest of the flight was event free! lol

I was once on a flight where a guy spilled his seed all over me. Needless to say, I was pissed! Those poor children…

No. The spills ON FAs can and do get messy, and no one calls the authorities. I understand the pros that lurk want to discourage that kind of retaliation for bad attitudes, but you'll have to rely on passenger character for that. It's legal to spill your tray and impossible to prove it was done intentionally, so everyone calm down.
