Deeply Grateful To The Airlines!

in Flying Hell Commentary

Consulting had me flying on average two hundred and thirty legs a year up until five years ago. It had gotten to the point that, with cancellations and overnight delays it was taking longer than it would to drive. The flight Nazis even back then had become unbearably rude and abusive.

While working a job out west I went down to a little county airstrip and started taking lessons. A year and a half later I was commercial and instrument rated and bought a single engine plane called a Mooney that does 200 mph, has a leather interior, oxygen, and an autopilot.

When I go to the airport now, the very nice lady on my side of the field asks me if I want a cup of coffee before I go. I take what I want, (more than 3 oz of shampoo is NOT a threat to national security), leave when I want, and go where I want. I also take out my cell phone and wave it at the nav gear in the cockpit. That crap that some flight fairy tells you about it interfering is a lie. There is an FCC restriction because your phone may connect to more than one tower and they don’t know how to bill you!

If you’ve ever even thought about it, I highly recommend doing it yourself, sitting in the front left seat is great. If it weren’t for the stupid, obnoxious, incompetent, rude employees and management of America’s commercial air carriers, I wouldn’t be a pilot today! Thanks again!

Well… let's be honest… It's thanks to the Airlines, AND your own money. Most of us can't afford either the lessons or the private aircraft or the airport landing fees. Not that I begrudge you this – but keep it in perspective… "It's good to be the King.." no?

Yeesh. You, SAW, remind me of Gaia online.

You can be very intelligent, but you feel this inexplicable need to berate and belittle almost everyone and everything in order to, I suppose, boost your self-confidence.

Why don't you make more comments like this one? You would be revered here, I think, if you were to do so.

I didn't find my comment berating. Just in perspective. The author wrote it as if it was this great thing that everyone should do… Well… two things… NOT everyone can do it (not even close) and people who "are the king" sometimes don't realize how good they have it over the rest of us shlumps. I don't begrudge him his benefits one bit – kudos for being able to do what he does.

No, I understood THIS post. This one I praised for its intelligence and kind spirit.

It's a lot of your other, pretentious, self-important posts I was referring to.
