“Altruistic” Passenger Gives Up Seat

in Portly Stories

This isn’t really a horror story but it could have been. I fly a lot for business. I had taken my middle seat for my flight. The aisle seat was taken on my right, and the window seat to my left was empty. I was starting to get excited that I would have an empty seat on my left, when my hopes were dashed. A super-large woman was squeezing her way sideways down the aisle, and as luck would have it, she was going to be my neighbor. We got up so she could pour herself into her seat, and then we squeezed back in.

She was actually very nice and told me she really hated flying and she was sad that she couldn’t even sit by her friend. Well I immediately said “I hate when that happens. Would you like me to swap with her?” I figured that since I was in the middle seat, I couldn’t do any worse, and why not make this lady happy. Well happy she was! “Would you?,” she asked. “Of course I would!,” I replied. She then yelled for her girlfriend who was sitting about 6 rows up in a bulkhead seat. “He’s going to switch with you!” Well, an even LARGER woman stood up and smiled. I switched seats with her. I don’t think the guy in the aisle seat was too happy.

If the two "large" women fit next to each other, and one in the middle seat, then I think you're exaggerating their size just a tad…

So, if heaven and hell actually existed, this would be a “flight from heaven”. Right? Because you got what you wanted. Next.

SAW,

Maybe they were so large they stowed the excess fat under the seat in front of them?

anon… that is simply an obnoxious comment. Perhaps you could offer something more valuable than airspace between your ears?

Very nice story. It's nice to hear of a situation like this working itself out sometimes. Congrats! I hope you played the lottery when you landed…

It's awesome that everything worked out well for you, but it's definitely not a Flight from Hell.

Wait, people.

This IS a flight from hell, only not for the story writer, but for the guy in the aisle seat.
