Forced To Split In Half

in Portly Stories

My old boss, who is a plus-sized woman, to say the least, has always had the courtesy to purchase two coach seats when flying because she needs the room and doesn’t want to inconvenience other people. We board the plane for a business trip. I’m seated three rows behind her. Unfortunately, the airline has assigned her two seats, aisle across from each other. She explains that she needs two seats for herself. The flight attendant says “there’s nothing I can do” and tells her she needs to sit down. My boss is practically in tears and says “what do you want me to do, split myself in half!”.

A man offers to swap his middle seat for one of her aisle seats so that she can have two adjacent seats. This seems very reasonable. Unfortunately, the flight attendant says that “seat changes aren’t allowed until the aircraft is in flight.” By this time, lots of other people are watching. My poor boss was completely humiliated and forced to sit in a seat in which she didn’t fit, overlapping onto some other poor passenger.

That's really horrible! She was trying to be considerate of other passengers.

And I've seen plenty of people make seat changes before takeoff.

Sometimes Flight Attendents need to use their brains. I see seat changes constantly beofre flight. She is an imbecile and should be fired.

This is horrible, she is doing the right thing and this idiotic FA needs some lessons in common sense. I am so sorry that this happened to your boss, did you talk with the airline about this? You and your boss should contact and give them the name of the FA, flight number, ticket, ect. Hopefully something could be done, (Like a refund on the unused seat.) Good luck

That is completely ridiculous. I hope she received major compensation. The worst thing is that the other passengers have probably logged on to this site and written about how inconsiderate your ex-boss was despite her good efforts!

That poor woman! She tried to do the right thing and it backfired completely. Talk about a self-esteem blower!
