FA Enjoys First Class

in Attendant & Pilot Stories

Our trip was fantastic, our flight down to Cozumel was amazing, we upgraded to first class and were treated awesome!

The upgrade to first class coming home was not so much. Do not get me wrong, the flight was great, the food was great, but the girl (I have her name but will not say it here) that was taking care of first class was horrible. I heard her say she was “exhausted,” and she only came out once to offer drinks and give us our lunch; if you wanted anything you had to call or go to the front and ask! People were literally bringing her back their plates and glasses because she was not coming back out. We were in the front row and watched her eat a meal, a pizza and an apple all while sitting down and reading Vogue, MacLean’s, a newspaper and clipping coupons.

The cost of our upgrade for us was not worth it. This stewardess was getting more out of being in first class than the people that had actually paid to be there!

STEWARDESS? Where in the hell have you been for the last 30 years? They are now called flight attendants. If you called her a "stewardess", no wonder she ignored you.

samH, does it matter what they are called? NO. server = waitress. stewardess = flight attendant.

honey, got off your butt and do your job, people pay for first class for some actual first class service!

you, sir, are the prime example of the type of person that girl has to deal with day in and out on every flight.

If she's exhausted, she most likely is! Flight attendants can make sometimes up to 5 trips in a ROW getting only a couple hours each way in layover time to catch some rest and then prepare for the next flight. They don't need some self-entitled yuppie scum like you complaining about having to get up and walk a couple feet to relinquish a plate or glass!

Get over yourself. You'll find that these experiences are far more enjoyable if you'll just pull your head out of your own ass. Paying for an upgrade or not, a little human decency shouldnt be too much to ask.

Did you have little kids kicking the back of your seat? Did you have whiney old people drooling and complaining about how they're too hot, too cold, too constipated on all sides? No. You had a nice comfortable seat in first class, nice food, probably a half-way decent movie, and some semblance of wait-on service.

Her job description is not personal maid. It's flight attendant. She's not under your employ, just a perk of the experience.

From his description, sounds like she was hardly 'attending' to the flight at all. True, she isn't a personal maid, but I've never seen it required that the -passengers- do the work of cleanup. That's not what they're there for either.

Flight attendants….I think the name says is all…as impersonal as most in this profession are. Whatever happened to the spirit of service that went with the role that you chose to take? It's funny to me that so many of today's "FAs" , given the VERY advanced age of many on"western airlines", were probably hired as "stewardesses or stewards" back in the day of the 707, DC-10, L-1011, and 727. This was a time when, as soon as you got to the airport, you were treated with civility and felt as if the company and the people who worked for it truly appreciated your business. These days, something as rare as a smile is the exception to the rule of the pissed off, rode hard-put-away-wet, overweight, bloated-sense-of-entitlement, passenger-don't-bother-me, prima donna/bitchy queen flight attendant. Again, you choose this profession and you get tired of being villified by all us "nagging paying customers. " Why do we complain? Because most of you just SUCK at what you are paid to do! "We are here for your safety…" I am sure that is part of it. However, you are also there to get me a Coke…so pipe down and get me the damn Coke, stewardess…..an smile while you're at it.

Now now,

Ya'll just settle down…and I will get you that Coke. (Smile)

I love my job. I've been doing it for 15 years and each flight I have about 300 "guests". I must admit that I can keep myself very busy with 100 guests so the NICE ones do get most of my time.

We do have tight time constraints but even so, sitting on your butt while others are waiting for you to come get their dirty dishes is awful. There is no excuse for that and I know that every work group has a few of those.

I am sorry that happened and when you are on my flight, you'll know it. !

I and alot of my co-workers DO genuinely care about what we do and how we do it. I hope you get one of us next time and we'll be blogging on the website "flightsfromheaven".

Dustbunny, thanks for contributing to the restoration of faith I want to have. It certainly is true that there are SOME (like you, I am sure) who truly enjoy your role and care about its execution and public perception. While it is unfair to pros like you, unfortunately human nature causes most of us to complain about the "worst" and take for granted the "best". I am guilty of that in my last note….apologies to you!…and thanks for the Coke and smile! I am sure you can see the reciprocal view, too. I fly quite a bit and pay a lot of money to do so. So, when I feel my business is taken for granted and I am treated with a lack of manners and civility by those who directly benefit from my frequent business, I feel short-changed and compelled to vent.

That said, I am done kvetching! Now I am thirsty…need another Coke….

Ok, the FA I think choose to be an FA – didn't nobody twist her arm. Maybe she needs to conside another line of work if she can't do FA work? Just a thought. Dude, when you pay the extra bucks for First Class service – you need to get first class service.

I'm sure she makes pretty good money in her job. Many people have to keep working when they're tired. It's part of life. Maybe hidden cameras on board would give management a better view of the job employees are doing? Sorry, but being an FA is a "service" oriented ocpuation. If you don't want to do it – get another job.

@SamH – "STEWARDESS? Where in the hell have you been for the last 30 years"

Have to agree with you here. "Waitress" is the appropriate term these days, or "Salesgirl" when food service is finished and they are spruiking the airline's credit cards. But *never* Stewardess. Ever. It's so patronising.
