in Weather Stories

My Hell Story has nothing to go with waiting in line or screaming babies. Actually, my Hell Story is a 2-part story of near death experiences – on my arrival AND return flights.

The first flight was a very short flight on a 747 from NYC to Boston. It was a 10pm flight and they severely under booked the flight. It was SO under booked, we were ALL upgraded to first class – AND had our own rows. A very nice Orthodox Jewish man helped me with my baggage, and settled in behind me. Approximately 5 minutes after the fasten seatbelt sign was turned off, the plane’s power also turned off. I was laying across the seats, and I actually hit the ceiling as the plane made a dramatic nose dive. The kind Jewish man behind me started reciting what I assume were prayers in Hebrew. He actually ran into me mid-air, as we were crushed against the ceiling in total darkness. One stewardess flew up the first class aisle of the plane into economy class. Suddenly the power came back on, we hit the floor/seats with a painful thud, and the flight righted itself. Several minutes later the pilots came on and explained that the auto-pilot shut off, and they would proceed to Boston.

On my return flight, which was actually a flight from Philly to Pittsburgh, we took off into some very bad weather. Our pilot assured us that they reworked the route and we would avoid the weather all together. Half way through the flight, we experienced a HUGE, bone rattling crash and crackle, and the flight took a side-nose dive, again with the power shutting off. This time the flight was full, and everyone was screaming in fear. Once again, the flight righted itself. Evidently we were struck by lightning. We thought it was over until, on our descent, we were AGAIN struck by lightning and again lost control of the flight. We landed and I swore to never fly again.

That was 5 yrs ago and probably 40 flights ago. Ha.

What does it matter if he was Jewish, Christain, or Muslin? How do you know your were hit by Lighting? And if the plane righted itself, where were the pilots and why didn't the "Right" the plane? You sound like a DRAMA QUEEN.

Good grief Shakinthefat! Why don't we put you in that situation and see if you don't cry like a little girl. I'm sure the pilot told them they were hit by lightning. Drama Queen my ass, I'd have been sh*tting myself!

Oh, and I think you mean MUSLIM, not MUSLIN. Muslin is a type of cotton fabric…

Wow, there are a lot of trolls on this board. : P Amazing story; worst I've ever heard. Shakinthefat–I'll bite: writer was adding detail when s/he told us the guy was Orthodox; I thought the detail was entirely neutral in tone–not like it "mattered" which religion he was, just telling us who happened to be there, hitting the ceiling as the plane took a nosedive…You get to remember small details in situations like that.

Lucky you found the good one.

Nothing is more fun than negative G's. Look at it as your astronaut training!

Orthodox Jewish men dress in the black coats with black hats, & usually have the curls in their hair. They're not hard to spot.

I, too, found it hard to believe that any airline would fly a 747 from Boston to NYC. Too large of an aircraft for such a short flight.

Secondly, the first class section on a 747 is upstairs, so no stewardess (FA) could fly "up the first class aisle into economy class"

I usually get tired of people calling all these stories BS, but sometimes they are.

Actually very often the business class is upstairs, first is up front under that, followed by either some more business and then eco or just eco.

There's also at least one airline with premium economy on the upper deck– Iran Air on their 747SP.
