in Odds & Ends Stories

Last year my sister and a friend and I flew from Philadelphia to Las Vegas for an eagerly awaited vacation. It had been many years since I had flown and I was nervous, especially since I have severe claustrophobia. My doctor gave me a few strong sedatives to take on an as needed basis.

The flight out was fine. I took one pill and relaxed in a serene, trance-like state. The flight back, however, occurred the night potential terrorists were arrested in Great Britain trying to smuggle liquid explosives onto a plane. This only added to my terror of flying and closed in spaces. We were advised to get to the airport very early. We did, and so did everybody else. We spent hours waiting on the sidewalk for the airline personnel to show up. Then a few more hours watching them throw all our shampoo and perfume in the trash.

As the time for the flight approached, I took one sedative. Strange, it seemed to have no effect. So I took another. And I think I actually took a third.

I have a vague memory of walking onto the plane and trying to sit in a seat – that already had a person sitting in it. And seeing a can of coke in front of me. And I recall my sister smacking my shoulder and hissing “Swallow! Swallow!” Apparently I was falling asleep while eating a sandwich and the food kept falling out of my mouth. To this day I don’t know why I didn’t choke or stop breathing, I was so zonked. But I had the doubtful pleasure of regaining consciousness in Philadelphia.

Signed, G.M.

from the sister's perspective perhaps? My husband gets fussy when I take my nausea meds as they make me loopy and he then has to watch for us both

Haha kind of funny. The image of food falling out of your mouth was vivid in my mind. LOL! But I'm glad to know that nothing bad happened to you. A good thing to know about pills is that if you think it's having no effect, it probably is because it will kick in later. Not good to have yourself overdosing in an airport.

Nice, quaint, innocuous story about how you became a drug addict. Tell it to the judge, junkie. It didn't work for me, get your own story.

jag, do your responses ever have a fucking point or are you really an anal, uptight asshole to everyone in real life that you portray yourself as on here?

AH, most of the comments don't have a fucking point, that's the fucking point. The racy, edgey, idiotic, and assine comments are what keeps the vast majority of the people coming back to the site. It's not the boring 'feel sorry for me' stories that does the trick. Do you think the majority of people actually give a fuck for the flight from hell these people allegely had.If you do, send them $$$$ and a sympathy card. Everyone has their own bullshit to deal with in life. Now I'm starting to sound a little too paternalistic for me. Well, FUCK ME!! And FUCK YOU TOO!!!

last boyscout,

Yes people actually come here to read the stories. As strang as it sounds, folks do do that.

As for this comments section, I bet alot of folks don't even read them because of folks like you.

This story made me laugh out loud. But this really didn't seem like a flight from Hell, it sounds like apart from your apparent accidental overdosing, everything went ok. Loved the sitting one someone else though. And your sister smacking you and telling you to swallow.
